The Kalyana Karnataka Road Transport Corporation (KKRTC) has suspended its bus services to Maharashtra after one of its buses was set on fire by protesters at Omerga in that state during the ongoing agitation for Maratha reservation. However, no one was injured in the incident, a transport department official said on Tuesday. The state owned KKRTC bus was proceeding to Pune from Bhalki in Bidar when the incident occurred. "No one was injured in this incident as the protesters deboarded all the passengers and set the bus on fire. Quickly alternative arrangements were made to take the passengers to their destination," he said. "We will stop bus operations till normalcy is restored," the official added.

The Delhi government has approved a scheme for a premium bus service that aims at reducing intracity usage of private vehicles and help reduce pollution, officials said on Monday. The government uploaded the draft of the Delhi Motor Vehicles Licensing of Aggregator (Premium Buses) Scheme, 2023 on its website in August and sought public feedback. The city government hopes to encourage the middle and upper-middle classes to switch to public transport through the scheme. According to the scheme, a licence holder shall ensure that no premium bus shall be engaged or acquired with a registration date beyond three years from the date of notification of the scheme. "Subsequently, induction of any new Premium bus, the prevailing emission norms, BS-VI must be compliant, either Air-Conditioned CNG or electric buses. After January 1, 2025 the induction of only electric buses shall be allowed, no CNG-operated bus even if having BS-VI compliance shall be allowed to be inducted under this scheme,"

Eleven more luxury buses have been inducted in the Himachal Road Transport Corporation (HRTC) recently, taking the total number of the Volvo fleet to 76, Deputy Chief Minister Mukesh Agnihotri said on Tuesday. He flagged off a bus service from Mata Shri Chintpurni to Delhi. Agnihotri said the devotees coming to Mata's temple would get better access to facilities and religious tourism would also get a boost in the state. He said buses will also be inducted on other routes, including Tapri-Chandigarh Airport, Shimla-Jaipur, Shimla-Srinagar and Shimla-Delhi Airport. Bus services are also proposed for Chintpurni Mata-Khatushyam Ji, Baba Balaknath Ji-Amritsar, Baba Balaknath (Deyotsiddh)-Delhi, the chief minister added. All the formalities of all these bus services would be completed soon, he added.
Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal on Monday said his government is sending a scheme for introducing premium buses on Delhi roads through private aggregators for Lieutenant Governor V K Saxena's approval. He said he hoped the scheme will be approved. "Following the LG's approval, we will share the policy online for seeking public feedback," the chief minister said at a press conference. Kejriwal said the buses, which will be equipped with CCTV cameras, panic buttons and will be air conditioned, will encourage the middle and upper middle classes to use public transport. "The policy stipulates that no bus older than three years will be used by aggregators. Buses purchased after January 1, 2024 will be electric. The seats in the buses will be booked through an app," he said. The booking prices for these buses will be higher than those of DTC tickets and in accordance with the market. The Telangana State Road Transport Corporation (TSRTC) has entered into a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Nalsoft for Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) implementation. TSRTC is the first among all the State Road Transport Corporation undertakings in the country to commission and implement it, a release from TSRTC said. The MoU was signed on Monday and exchanged between TSRTC and Nalsoft at Bus Bhavan here by TSRTC Vice-Chairman and Managing Director V C Sajjanar and CA Venkata Nalluri, CEO of Nalsoft. The TSRTC has a fleet of over 10,000, and 47,528 employees (of which 37,000 are drivers and conductors, and the rest mechanics), who are managed by 200 officers. It has 99 depots, 364 bus stations, 3,000 routes, managing about 45 lakh passengers (30 lakh fare paying and 15 lakh bus pass-holders), and covering 32 lakh km each day, it said. The Jharkhand cabinet on Thursday approved a proposal for setting up an inter-state bus terminal and WRD office-cum-commercial facilities at Jamshedpur. The facility will come up on 13.7 acre of land near National Highway-33, an official said. The bus terminus will be developed on 7.37 acre of land and the WRD office on 3.81 acre, while the commercial facilities will be built on the remaining land parcel, he said. The cabinet also approved Rs 70.40 crore for the project, which will be developed in public-private-partnership mode, the urban development department official said. The cabinet gave its nod to a proposal for the construction of three critical care health block hospitals in Lohardaga, Khunti and Saraikela Kharswan districts.
