Karna govt launches Data Cityto answer challanges of B'lore

: The Karnataka government Tuesday launched 'Data City,' an international openinnovation programme to develop solutions to answer the challenges of Benagaluru city. The Data City will be implemented in collaboration withFrench-based utility company SUEZ, which operates largely inwater treatment and waste management, the Bengaluru Water Supply and Sewerage Board (BWSSB) and NUMA, a French innovation company. The initiative brings together city authorities, corporates and startups to address cities' challenges and develop innovative solutions to build sustainable and efficient cities, using data and technology, NUMA said in a press release. Sebi orders release of bank, demat a/c of Sterlite Metal

Markets regulator Sebi has ordered the release of bank and demat accounts of Sterlite Metal Rolling and its former promoter after recovering dues worth Rs 62 lakh. In an order dated November 26, the Securities and Exchange Board of India (Sebi) directed banks, depositories -- NSDL and CDSL -- and mutual funds (MFs) to "release the bank accounts/ lockers, demat accounts and mutual fund folios" of the firm and its erstwhile promoter Hitesh Bhutla. In July 2017, Sebi had issued notices against the entities attaching their bank and demat accounts as well as MF folios to recover Rs 62 lakh. The notices had come after the entities failed to pay the fine imposed on them for not complying with SAST (Substantial Acquisition of Shares and Takeovers) norms. Besides, Sterlite Metal was penalised for failing to make an open offer. Under the Securities Laws Act, Sebi has powers to attach bank as well as demat accounts and other assets for the recovery of the dues.

Key equity indices pared gains after hitting fresh intraday high in mid-afternoon trade. At 14:20 IST, the barometer index, the S&P BSE Sensex, was up 63.43 points or 0.18% at 35,417.51. The Nifty 50 index was up 21.95 points or 0.21% at 10,650.55. The Nifty held firmly above the 10,600 mark.

Goa Carbon shuts operations at Bilaspur unit

Goa Carbon Tuesday said operations at its Bilaspur unit in Chhattisgarh have been temporarily shut down for maintenance work. The operations have been shut down from November 24, 2018, Goa Crabon said in a BSE filing. However, the company did not say anything on the time period of the shutdown. Goa Carbon is in the business of manufacture and marketing of calcined petroleum coke. The company's calcination plant of 75,000 TPA capacity is located in southern Goa, 40 km away from the Mormugao port. The company is a regular supplier to aluminium smelters, graphite electrode and titanium dioxide manufacturers, as well as other users in the metallurgical and chemical industries. Stock of Goa Carbon was trading at Rs 533.05, up 0.60 per cent, on BSE.

Crystal Crop acquires three brands of Syngenta India

Agri-chemcial firm Crystal Crop Protection Tuesday said it has acquired Swiss-based Syngenta's three brands -- Proclaim, Tilt and Blue Copper, in India. Crystal Crop Protection also plans to launch its IPO to raise an estimated Rs 1,000 crore. This acquisition from Syngenta will enhance Crystal's penetration in the pulses, cotton, rice, wheat, vegetable and grapes markets in India, Crystal Crop said in a statement. Crystal Crop Protection manufactures crop protection products which include insecticides, fungicides, herbicides and plant growth regulators and bio-stimulants. "The Competition Commission of India (CCI) directed the divestment of these brands to Crystal while approving the global acquisition of Syngenta by ChemChina. We are confident that Crystal will continue to steward the products for the benefit of the farming communities," Syngenta India's MD Rafael Del Rio said.
