Muted demand drags down refined soya oil futures by 0.25%

Refined soya oil prices drifted lower by 0.25 per cent to Rs 752.80 per 10 kg in futures trading Tuesday as traders reduced exposure amid fall in demand at the physical market. At the National Commodity and Derivatives Exchange, refined soya for delivery in December fell by Rs 1.90, or 0.25 per cent, to Rs 752.80 per 10 kg with an open interest of 43,030 lots. The oil for delivery in January next year fell by a similar margin to trade at Rs 755 per 10 kg in 5,930 lots. Market analysts said offloading of positions by participants on the back of easing demand in the physical market against sufficient stocks position pushed down refined soya oil prices.

Hong Kong Stocks gain 0.6%

Hopes that trade tensions between Beijing and Washington would ease were encouraged on Tuesday morning, as vice president Wang Qishan said China is ready for talks with the United States. China Market falls 0.5%

Recent turmoil in the Chinese mainland stock market and changes to the regulations have spurred a strong trend of stock buybacks on the A-share market, as companies move to inject confidence in their stocks. The number of companies that have announced plans to repurchase their stocks as well as the total value involved have grew exponentially this year, particularly in the second half of the year, when the mainland stock market started to see wild volatility, data showed. As of November 1, 866 companies have announced plans to buyback a total of nearly 15 billion A shares, compared to 383 companies in 2017 that purchased a total of about 2 billion A shares, according to financial data provider Wind.

Crude oil futures fall Rs 33 on weak global cues

Crude oil futures eased by Rs 33 to Rs 4,601 per barrel as speculators were engaged in reducing their exposure amid a weakening trend overseas. At the Multi Commodity Exchange, crude for delivery in November was trading lower by Rs 33, or 0.71 per cent, to Rs 4,601 a barrel in a business turnover of 759 lots. The oil for delivery in December also fell by Rs 29, or 0.62 per cent, to Rs 4,627 a barrel in 25 lots. Traders said a mixed trend in global market as the US imposed sanctions on Iran but granted eight countries temporary waivers allowing them to keep buying oil from the Islamic Republic, weighed on the crude prices here. The West Texas Intermediate (WTI) crude lost 0.24 per cent, to USD 62.95, while Brent crude, the international benchmark fell 0.40 per cent to USD 72.88 per barrel at the New York Mercantile Exchange.

ONGC reports strong numbers with quarter profit to Rs 8,264.6 crore

State-run Oil and Natural Gas Corporation Ltd. (ONGC) has announced its results for the second quarter ending on September 30, 2018, with the net profit at Rs. 8,265 crore, up 61.1% quarter on quarter (QoQ).The company announced that the gas production segment witnessed an increasing trend on year on year basis (YoY). It increased by about 3% in H1'19 compared to H1'18.However, the gas production is expected to increase further with the completion of Daman Development Project in Western Offshore and further increase from VA-S1 field in Eastern Offshore.Drilling Rig Sagar Samrat was under conversion into a Mobile Offshore Production Unit (MOPU) for oil production from WO-16 Cluster. The MOPU was scheduled to be commissioned in the beginning of FY'19, which could not be done because of failure on part of the contractor.The non-availability of MOPU as per schedule led to a loss of oil production of about .35 MMT.
