Silver futures fall on profit-booking; weak global cues

Silver futures traded lower by 0.13 per cent to Rs 38,840 per kg in futures trade Friday after participants reduced their holdings to book profits amid weak global cues. At the Multi Commodity Exchange, silver for delivery in December was trading lower by Rs 49 or 0.13 per cent to Rs 38,840 per kg in a business turnover of 225 lots. Also, the contract for delivery in November shed Rs 48 or 0.12 per cent to Rs 38,869 per kg in a business volume of 372 lots. In the international market, silver was trading 0.07 per cent down at USD 14.65 an ounce in Singapore. The fall in silver prices at futures trade was mostly due to offloading of bets by participants in line with a weak trend in the precious metals overseas, analysts said.

Rise in demand lifts refined soya oil futures by 0.25 pc

Amid pick-up in domestic demand at the spot market and restricted supplies from producing regions, refined soya oil prices went up by 0.25 per cent to Rs 755.90 per 10 kg in futures trade Friday as participants built up fresh positions. At the National Commodity and Derivatives Exchange, refined soya oil for delivery in November month rose by Rs 1.90, or 0.25 per cent, to Rs 755.90 per 10 kg with an open interest of 35,530 lots. Similarly, the oil for delivery in December traded higher by Rs 1.70, or 0.22 per cent, to Rs 762.50 per 10 kg in 10,390 lots. Analysts said fresh positions created by traders following pick-up in demand in the physical market against restricted supplies from growing regions led to an upward trend in refined soya oil prices in futures trade.

Mentha oil futures extend weakness on muted demand

Continuing its slide, mentha oil prices fell further by 1.25 per cent in futures trade Friday as speculators reduced their holdings amid low demand from industries at the spot market. Moreover, ample stocks position on persistent supplies from growing regions too weighed on mentha oil prices. At the Multi Commodity Exchange, mentha oil for delivery in November month traded lower by Rs 22, or 1.25 per cent, to Rs 1,732.90 per kg, in a business turnover of 440 lots. Marketmen attributed continuous fall in mentha oil prices at futures trade to reducing of holdings by participants, tracking subdued demand at the spot markets.

Jeera futures recover 1.64 pc on rise in demand

Jeera prices recovered by 1.64 per cent to Rs 19,805 per quintal in futures trade Friday as speculators created fresh positions, driven by pick-up in demand from stockists and overseas enquiries. Tight stocks position following restricted arrivals from the growing regions fuelled the uptrend. At the National Commodity and Derivatives Exchange, jeera for delivery in November rose by Rs 320, or 1.64 per cent, to Rs 19,805 per quintal with an open interest of 5,952 lots. Traders said speculative positions built up by participants amid rising domestic as well as export demand led to the rise in jeera futures.
