TOKYO (Reuters) - Japanese industrial gas company Taiyo Nippon Sanso Corp said on Thursday it had agreed to buy part of the European businesses of Praxair Inc for 5 billion euros ($5.9 billion) in a move aimed at boosting its global competitiveness.

Copper futures down 0.38% on low demand, global cues

Copper prices moved down by 0.38 per cent to Rs 442.30 per kg in futures trade today as speculators trimmed positions, easing demand at domestic spot market amid weak global cues. At the Multi Commodity Exchange, copper for delivery in November fell by Rs 1.70, or 0.38 per cent, to Rs 442.30 per kg in a business turnover of 139 lots. Likewise, the metal for delivery in August contracts shed Rs 1.40, or 0.32 per cent, to Rs 436.45 per kg in 1,027 lots. Analysts said cutting down of positions by traders on the back of slump in demand from consuming industries and a weak trend overseas weighed on copper prices in futures trade.

Wheat futures gain on rising demand

Wheat prices advanced by 0.27 per cent to Rs 1,841 per quintal in futures trading today as speculators raised bets on the back of pick up in demand at the spot market. At the National Commodity and Derivatives Exchange, wheat for delivery in July rose by Rs 5, or 0.27 per cent, to Rs 1,841 per quintal with an open interest of 4,630 lots. Likewise, the wheat for delivery in August contracts gained Rs 4, or 0.22 per cent, to Rs 1,854 per quintal in 5,230 lots. Analysts said expansion of positions by traders due to pick-up in demand in the physical market and a pause in arrivals from producing belts, kept wheat prices higher in futures trade.

Guar seed futures rise on spot demand

Guar seed prices rise by Rs 25 to Rs 4,052 per quintal in futures trade today as traders enhanced holdings supported by upbeat physical markets cues. Market players said, building up of bets by traders in line with rising prices at the spot market due to tight supplies amid brisk demand from guar gum makers, led to the up tick in guar seed futures prices. At the National Commodity and Derivatives Exchange, guar seed delivery for the October contract gained by Rs 25, or 0.62 per cent, to Rs 4,0542 per quintal, with an open interest of 64,060 lots. Likewise, the delivery of the current contract July enquired higher by Rs 22, or 0.57 per cent, to Rs 3,908 per quintal with an open interest stood of 40,020 lots.

Castor seed futures fall on weak spot leads

Castor seed prices came down by Rs 9 to Rs 4,276 per quintal in futures trade today on profit booking by speculators, guided by subdued physical markets sentiments. Market players said, traders preferred to book profits at higher levels, tracking lower physical markets cues, which led to the fall in castor seed futures prices. In the spot market, withdrawal of support from consuming industries such as soap, paint and lubricant amid mounting of stocks on increased supplies from growing areas kept the prices lower, they added. At the National Commodity and Derivatives Exchange, castor seed delivery for the immediate July contract decreased by Rs 9, or 0.21 per cent, to Rs 4,276 per quintal in an open interest of 51,520 lots. The delivery of August contract also fell by Rs 6, or 0.14 per cent, to Rs 4,329 per quintal in a business turnover of 1,02,560 open lots.

Silver futures slip 0.24% on weak overseas cues

Taking negative cues from the global market, silver prices traded lower by 0.24 per cent to Rs 39,822 per kg in futures trade today as speculators cut their bets. At the Multi Commodity Exchange, silver for delivery in September fell by Rs 97, or 0.24 per cent, to Rs 39,822 per kg in a business turnover of 555 lots. Likewise, the white metal for delivery in July contracts shed Rs 20, or 0.05 per cent, to Rs 39,200 per kg in 4 lots. Analysts said the weakness in silver prices at futures trade was mostly due to offloading of positions by participants in tandem with a weak trend overseas. Globally, silver fell 0.25 per cent to USD 16.02 an ounce in Singapore.

Cardamom futures trade 1.56 pc higher

Cardamom prices rose 1.56 per cent to Rs 1,042 per kg in futures trading today as participants built up fresh positions amid pick up in demand. Tight stocks position on fall in arrivals from growing regions supported the upside. At the Multi Commodity Exchange, cardamom for delivery in August contract was trading higher by Rs 16, or 1.56 per cent, to Rs 1,042 per kg in a business turnover of 6 lots. The far-month September contract of the spice traded higher by Rs 12.70, or 1.26 per cent, to Rs 1,022 per kg with trading volume of 4 lots. Analysts said fresh positions created by traders due to pick-up in demand in spot market pushed up cardamom prices.
