EESL distributes 30 cr LED bulbs, helped save Rs 15K cr annually

State run Energy Efficiency Services Ltd (EESL) today said it has distributed over 30 crore light emitting diode (LED) bulbs across the country under the Unnat Jyoti by Affordable LEDs for All (UJALA) scheme. The UJALA scheme was launched by Prime Minister of India Narendra Modi in January 2015 and is currently the largest LED distribution programme in the world. The distribution of 30 crore LED bulbs in India has led to energy savings of over 38,952 million kWh, annually, amounting to Rs 15,581 crore in energy savings, an EESL statement said. In its commitment to reduce carbon intensity by 33 to 35 per cent between 2005 and 2030, India has recognised energy efficiency as a key mitigation strategy, with the UJALA scheme serving as the government's flagship programme for efficient domestic lighting, globally recognised as one of the largest contributors to energy savings globally. Gold weakens on muted demand, silver tops Rs 41,000-mark

Gold prices softened by Rs 40 to Rs 31,950 per ten grams at the bullion market today owing to slackened demand from local jewellers even as the metal strengthened overseas. On the other hand, silver recaptured the Rs 41,000-mark by surging Rs 330 to Rs 41,200 per kg due to increased offtake by industrial units and coin makers. Marketmen said easing demand from local jewellers and retailers at existing levels mainly put pressure on gold prices but a firm trend overseas capped the fall. Globally, gold edged higher by 0.13 per cent to USD 1,291.90 an ounce and silver by 0.06 per cent to USD 16.43 an ounce in New York in yesterday's trade. In the national capital, gold of 99.9 per cent and 99.5 per cent purity declined by Rs 40 each to Rs 31,950 and Rs 31,800 per ten grams, respectively. It had gained Rs 210 in yesterday's trade. Edible oils extend gain on rising demand

Edible oils maintained an upward trend for yet another week at the wholesale oils and oilseeds market, on the back of rising demand from vanaspati millers and retailers. Castor oil in the non-edible section, also went up on increased offtake by the consuming industries. Marketmen said, pick-up in demand from vanaspati millers and retailers against restricted arrivals from producing belts, mainly led to the rise in edible oil prices. Vegetable oils import rose by 3.5 per cent in April to 13.86 lakh tonnes, according to the industry data. Imports of vegetable oils (edible oil and non-edible oil) stood at 13.39 lakh tonnes in April 2017, according to Solvent Extractors' Association of India (SEA). In the national capital, sesame mill delivery and cotton seed mill delivery (Haryana) oils rose by Rs 200 each to Rs 9,200 and Rs 7,100 per quintal, respectively. Hyd Metro stations to have electric vehicle charging points

As part of its commitment to provide eco-friendly green services, electric vehicle (EV) charging stations would be set up at the Metro stations here by the the L&T Metro Rail (Hyderabad). A contract had been signed with the Powergrid Corporation of India to promote EV Charging Stations at metro stations, LTMRHL said in a release here today. "To start with, Powergrid shall develop charging stations at Miyapur and Dr. B R Ambedkar Balanagar Metro Stations, it said. Powergrid shall subsequently develop EV charging stations across the entire metro corridors. "We are committed to provide best in class eco-friendly green Metro services to the citizens of Hyderabad and this is a step in that direction," LTMRHL MD & CEO KVB Reddy said.
