At the Multi Commodity Exchange, lead for delivery in June was down by Rs 1.25, or 0.85 per cent, to Rs 146.60 per kg in a business turnover of 281 lots. Marketmen said offloading of bets by participants, tracking a weak trend at the domestic spot market due to weak demand, led to the fall in lead futures here.

Zinc prices fell 1.04 per cent to Rs 217.80 per kg in futures market Monday after speculators trimmed positions amid subdued demand at the domestic spot market. At the Multi Commodity Exchange, zinc for delivery in May drifted down by Rs 2.30, or 1.04 per cent, to Rs 217.80 per kg in a business turnover of 5,233 lots. Analysts said cutting down of positions by traders, triggered by a weak trend at the domestic physical markets due to low demand, mainly led to the fall in zinc prices at futures trade.

Soybean prices fell by Rs 23 to Rs 3,680 per quintal in futures trade Monday after participants cut down their bets, tracking negative cues from the physical markets. Besides, muted demand led to fall in soybean prices, marketmen said. At the National Commodity and Derivatives Exchange, soybean contracts for July fell by Rs 23, or 0.62 per cent, to Rs 3,680 per quintal, clocking an open interest of 4,670 lots. Similarly, soybean contracts for September delivery eased by Rs 17, or 0.46 per cent, to Rs 3,641 per quintal with an open interest of 1,15,700 lots.

Turmeric prices rose 0.31 per cent to Rs 6,530 per quintal in futures trade Monday as participants built up fresh positions on the back of pick up in domestic and export demand. At the National Commodity and Derivatives Exchange, turmeric for delivery in June rose by Rs 20, or 0.31 per cent, to Rs 6,530 per quintal with an open interest of 12,940 lots. Marketmen said fresh positions created by participants following upsurge in domestic as well as export demand mainly pushed up turmeric prices here.

India's service sector activity slipped to a seven-month low in April as businesses waited the outcome of general elections taking place, Nikkei Asian Review said on Monday.The Nikkei India services Purchasing Managers' index (PMI) dropped to 51 in April from 52 in March. The reading came in below the average for 2018 which was 51.6 and underscored that the sector is losing momentum.Readings above 50 points indicate expansion, while those below 50 signal contraction."Although the Indian private sector economy looks to be settling into a weaker growth phase, much of the slowdown was linked to disruptions arising from the elections," said Pollyanna De Lima, an economist at IHS Markit, which compiles the survey.Companies generally foresee improvements once a government is formed, she said."Another key takeaway from the latest results is the lack of inflationary pressures in both the manufacturing and service sectors, which coupled with slower economy growth offers room for a further cut .
