Air pollution: 491 construction, demolition sites in Delhi-NCR to be shut

The Commission for Air Quality Management (CAQM) said on Saturday it has issued directions for the closure of 491 construction and demolition sites, including 110 in Delhi, for flouting air pollution control norms. The CAQM has set up 40 flying squads to rigorously monitor enforcement and compliance of its directions to ameliorate the air quality of Delhi-NCR. These flying squads have inspected more than 8,580 construction and demolition sites till October 14. Closure directions have been issued to 491 defaulters -- 110 in Delhi, 118 in Haryana, 211 in Uttar Pradesh and 52 in Rajasthan -- a statement said. Casagrand forays into home building segment, plans 500 homes in 3 years

Realty firm Casagrand has unveiled an independent residential construction venture -- 'CASAGRAND PERCH', and announced plans to build 500 homes over the next three years under the new initiative. CASAGRAND Perch would be involved in designing of the residential units for customers who own a minimum of 1,500 sq ft land, while keeping in mind the concepts of light, ventilation, privacy and 'vaastu,' a company official said on Wednesday. "Through this venture, we will build an individual home by following the same standards of CASAGRAND. People usually reach out to unorganised players to build their homes and there are times when they are not satisfied with the outcome." CASAGRAND founder-managing director Arun Mn noted. 9.8 km tunnel on Banihal-Katra railway link completed in Jammu and Kashmir

The 9.8 km tunnel connecting two stations on 111 km under-construction Banihal-Katra railway link in Jammu and Kashmir was completed on Monday, officials said. It is part of the Udhampur-Srinagar-Baramulla Railway Line (USBRL) project. This is the third tunnel following the 12.6 km tunnel T-49B, the longest tunnel of Indian Railways, which was completed in January this year. On August 14, the world's highest rail bridge over the Chenab river in the Kouri area of Reasi district achieved a milestone when the overarch deck of the bridge was completed with a golden joint. The breakthrough was executed by conducting a blast and with it, the work on the escape tunnel T-13 was started, said the officials engaged in the work. "We have succeeded in completing the construction work on the tunnel between Dugga and Sawlakote stations in the Katra-Banihal section of the UdhampurSrinagarBaramulla Rail Link (USBRL)," an official said.
