Legendary South African all-rounder Mike Procter dies at 77, confirms CSA

Cricket South Africa (CSA) on Sunday mourned the death of one of country's finest all-rounders Mike Procter. He was 77. Procter's career as a fast bowler, capable off-spinner, hard-hitting middle-order batter, and astute captain is etched in the annals of South African cricket history. Beyond his playing days, he served the game in every conceivable role - as a national captain and coach, administrator, selector, commentator, elite ICC match referee, and then dedicated his final years to coaching underprivileged children. Procter was South Africa's coach in the post apartheid era. He played as many as 401 first class games but could only feature in seven Tests due to South Africa's isolation in 1970s and 1980s. Indian opener Shubman Gill on Sunday became the fastest player to score 2000 runs in ODIs during his side's World Cup match against New Zealand here on Sunday. The 24-year-old Indian, who scored 53 against Bangladesh in his previous outing, was 14 runs short of the milestone coming into the match. Gill, however, got out for 26 off 31 balls in the 14th over with Lockie Ferguson taking his wicket. Amla had set the record on January 21, 2011 in South Africa's match against India at St George's Park in Port Elizabeth. Down with dengue, Gill had missed India's first two World Cup matches against Australia and Afghanistan. He returned in India's marquee clash against Pakistan and scored 16.

Sri Lankan cricketer found 'not guilty' of rape in Australian court case

Sri Lankan cricket international Danushka Gunathilaka has been found not guilty of raping a woman he met on a dating site during the south Asian team's tour of Australia last November. Judge Sarah Huggett acquitted the 32-year-old player as he sat at Sydney's Downing Centre District Court on Thursday listening to the decision. Huggett found that the alleged victim, who cannot be legally named, was an intelligent witness who did not deliberately give false evidence about the use of a condom but was motivated by a desire to paint the cricketer in an unfavorable light.
