Sexual offences now gender neutral, as BNS introduces key changes

The newly enacted Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, which replaces the British-era Indian Penal Code, has made sexual offences "gender neutral" for the victim and the perpetrator, according to official documents. "Both boys and girls could get procured for sexual exploitation. The word 'minor girl' in section 366A of the IPC has been replaced with the word 'child' in clause 96 of the BNS to cover both male and female children below the age of 18 years and the offence of procurement has been made punishable," an explanatory note for the new criminal law said. It said Section 366B in the IPC has been made gender neutral by replacing the phrase "importation of girl from a foreign country" with "importation of girl or boy from a foreign country". It has been introduced as clause 141 in the BNS to cover the offence of importing into India any girl under the age of 21 years or any boy under the age of 18 years with the intent that such person will be forced or seduced to illicit sexual acts with .

Puducherry govt all set to implement new criminal laws from July 1

The Puducherry government on Satruday said all necessary steps have been taken to implement the new criminal laws, which are to come into effect from July 1. PWD and Law Minister K Lakshminarayanan said already training has been imparted to all those concerned with implementation of the new laws-- Indian Penal Code, Criminal Procedure Code and the Evidence Act. He said a manual had already been published for the benefit of the police and advocates highlighting the features of the new legislations. "It is a Central Act and we have no say and we implement the Actfrom July 1." A comparative picture is also presented between the new and the old criminal laws. "We also propose to publish the book and make it available for a price to the public and others soon," Lakshminarayanan said. A meeting will be held on Monday to bring to focus the features of the new legislations. Cops nab eight crime suspects after series of encounters in Noida

The Noida Police nabbed eight criminal suspects within 48 hours after a series of encounters in which seven of them suffered gunshot injuries, according to officials. Among those held is a Delhi-based robber who has over two dozen criminal cases registered against him at various police stations in the National Capital Region and two members of the 'Thak-Thak' gang, the officials said. 'Taarak Mehta Ka Ooltah Chashmah' actor goes missing, police files case

Delhi Police on Saturday lodged an abduction case over the disappearance of actor Gurucharan Singh of the famous TV serial 'Taarak Mehta Ka Ooltah Chashmah' fame, officials said. Multiple teams have been formed to find the 50-year-old actor, who is a Delhi resident, after he went missing five days ago, they said. He was last seen near the Delhi airport with a backpack, the police said citing a CCTV footage. An FIR has been lodged under Section 365 (abduction) and and an investigation has been launched into the matter, they added. Delhi Police arrests 20-year-old member of Lawrence Bishnoi gang

The Delhi Police has arrested a 20-year-old member of the Lawrence Bishnoi syndicate, who allegedly used to provide logistic support to the gang, officials said on Friday. The accused has been identified as Sunny, they said, adding that seven stolen motorcycles were allegedly seized from his possession. "On April 14, a specific input was received regarding a member of the Lawrance Bishnoi, Kala Rana and Kapil Mann gangs in the Bawana area. A raid was conducted and Sunny was nabbed. When frisked, a loaded single-shot country-made pistol and two live cartridges were recovered from his possession," Deputy Commissioner of Police (outer north) Ravi Kumar Singh said. The officer further said that Sunny disclosed that he used to facilitate logistic support, including motorcycles, to the gang members.
