Tanisha Bhise death: FIR for 'negligence' registered against doctor

A case of alleged criminal negligence was registered against a doctor on Saturday over the death of a 37-year-old woman who had been 'denied admission' at the Deenanath Mangeshkar Hospital here for not paying an advance deposit, police said. Accused Dr Sushrut Ghaisas, attached to the hospital as a consulting gynecologist, had resigned a few days ago in the wake of the controversy. It was alleged that Tanisha Bhise, pregnant wife of the personal secretary of state BJP legislator Amit Gorkhe, was denied admission at the Mangeshkar hospital in the last week of March as her relatives could not pay a deposit of Rs 10 lakh. Bhise died two days later, on March 31, after giving birth to twins at another hospital. Her family accused Dr Ghaisas, who was treating her, of demanding the payment of deposit. 474 homeless people died due to winter exposure in Delhi, claims NGO

An NGO on Saturday claimed that at least 474 homeless people in Delhi have died due to "winter exposure" between November 15, 2024, and January 10, 2025. The claim made by Centre for Holistic Development (CHD), an NGO working for the welfare of homeless, however, has no official confirmation. In a letter addressed to Delhi Chief Secretary Dharmendra and Delhi Urban Shelter Improvement Board (DUSIB) Chief Executive Officer Ravi Dhawan, CHD cited police statistics, indicating that an alarming 80 per cent of "unidentified dead bodies" in the city are believed of homeless individuals. "Between November 15 2024 to January 10, 2025, 474 homeless people died in Delhi due to the 'winter exposure' and unavailability of essential protective measures such as warm clothing, blankets, or adequate shelter," the NGO claimed. Porsche crash: Panel urges action against JJB members for bail 'lapses'

The panel probing the conduct of two Juvenile Justice Board (JJB) members in connection with the bail given to the minor accused in the Pune Porsche crash case has recommended disciplinary action against them for "procedural lapses", an official said on Wednesday. On May 19, two IT professionals were killed in Kalyani Nagar area here after their motorcycle was hit by a speeding Porsche car allegedly driven by the minor in an inebriated condition. The case caused a national uproar after JJB member L N Danwade granted bail to the accused on very lenient terms, including writing a 300-word essay on road safety. Later, a committee was formed by the Women and Child Development (WCD) Department of the Maharashtra government to probe the conduct of two JJB members in connection with the bail given to the minor accused. Registration of Births and Deaths (Amendment) Bill gets President's assent

The Registration of Births and Deaths (Amendment) Bill, 2023, which was passed in both Houses of Parliament during the Monsoon Session, has received the President's assent. The law will allow the use of a birth certificate as a single document for admission to an education institute, issuance of a driving licence, preparation of a voter list, Aadhaar number, registration of marriage or appointment to a government job. According to a notification issued by the Ministry of Law and Justice, President Droupadi Murmu has given assent to the legislation. The law will help create a national and state-level database of registered births and deaths which eventually would ensure efficient and transparent delivery of public services and social benefits, and digital registration.
