Maharashtra sees 919 Covid-19 cases, one death; active tally at 4,875

Maharashtra on Tuesday recorded 919 fresh coronavirus cases and one fatality that raised the tally of infections to 81,51,176, a state health department official said. With the latest fatality, the cumulative COVID-19 death toll rose to 1,48,461, he said. A day earlier, Maharashtra had seen a drop in infections as it reported 328 cases and one death. On Sunday, the state had logged 788 COVID-19 cases. Of the latest cases, Mumbai recorded 242 infections, followed by 105 cases in Nagpur city, 58 in Pune, and 57 in Navi Mumbai, a bulletin issued by the health department stated. 15 Covid-19 related deaths reported in last 12 days in Delhi: Data

Amid rising cases of COVID-19, 15 coronavirus-related deaths have been reported in the national capital in the last 12 days, according to official data. Delhi logged 980 fresh COVID-19 cases on Tuesday with a positivity rate of 25.98 per cent, meaning one in every four people tested returned a positive result, according to data shared by the city government's Health department. Police say five people have been killed in a shooting at a bank building in downtown Louisville and the suspected shooter is also dead. Police say six others were brought to the hospital after the Monday morning shooting. The Louisville Metro Police Department said Monday on Twitter there was an ongoing situation and asked people to avoid the area. "There are multiple casualties," police said in the tweet. Police described it as an active aggressor. Witnesses who left the building told WHAS-TV they heard gunfire inside the building. Numerous police vehicles were seen on television footage. Maharashtra: Fire breaks out in 12-storey building in Bhiwandi; 20 rescued

At least 20 people were rescued after a major fire erupted in a 12-storey building in Bhiwandi city in Thane district of Maharashtra on Saturday afternoon, officials said. No casualty was reported in the incident, an official said. The building with 48 flats filled with smoke after the blaze erupted at around 2.15 pm and residents rushed out, the official added. "At least 20 residents stranded on upper floors due to smoke were rescued by Fire Brigade personnel," the official said. The blaze destroyed the electricity cable of the building before it was brought under control after two hours at around 4:15 pm. The exact cause of the fire is not known yet but a short circuit could be the trigger, the official said, adding that further investigation is underway.

11 hurt in Detroit apartment building fire, nearly 20 displaced: Official

About a dozen people were hurt in an apartment building fire early Friday morning on Detroit's west side. Twenty people were displaced and 11 people suffered injuries including smoke inhalation, bumps and bruises, Fire Chief James Harris told The Detroit News. The blaze was reported around 3:30 a.m. It left the five-story building heavily damaged. At least some sections of the building's roof appeared to have collapsed. Eight killed in Bangladesh following clashes between ethnic outfits

At least eight people were dead and scores injured after violent clashes broke out between two ethnic outfits in the rugged terrains of Bandarban district in Bangladesh, sparking panic and forcing locals to flee their homes, police said on Friday. The incident took place on Thursday night in Rowangchhari upazila in Bangladesh's south-eastern Bandarban District, which is a hotbed of insurgency.
