The Delhi-NCR housing market witnessed a 44 per cent growth in new supply this year to 53,000 units, of which nearly 60 per cent were ultra-luxury homes priced above Rs 2.5 crore each, according to Anarock. The number of new launches of residential properties stood at 36,735 units during 2023. Real estate consultant Anarock has released the data of primary (first sale) housing market for 2024 of India's seven major cities -- Delhi-NCR, Mumbai Metropolitan Region (MMR), Pune, Bengaluru, Chennai, Hyderabad, and Kolkata. As per the Anarock data, Delhi-NCR launched 53,000 new housing units in 2024 -- a significant 44 per cent rise over 2023. "Over 59 per cent of the new supply was in the ultra-luxury segment priced more than Rs 2.5 crore," it said. Delhi Police has stepped up the security around AIIMS, Delhi after the demise of former prime minister Manmohan Singh during treatment. Deputy Commissioner of Police (South) DCP Ankit Chauhan and other senior police officers of the district reached All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) for reviewing the security arrangements. A senior police officer said that security around AIIMS, Delhi was tightened and a company of paramilitary personnel was deployed. Extra staff from other neighbouring police stations have also been deployed as senior leaders, ministers and other dignitaries arrive at the hospital. Delhi Metro has completed 22 years of its passenger operations, according to a statement issued on Wednesday. It was on December 24, 2002 that the first Delhi Metro train, TS-01, was flagged off by the then Prime Minister, Atal Bihari Vajpayee, "introducing a new era of modern public transport" in Delhi NCR, the statement said. The TS-01 train, which started DMRC's journey, has carved a legacy of its own in bringing modern public transport to Delhi, it said. Commissioned in 2002, TS-01 began as a four-coach train but has been upgraded over the years to meet growing passenger demand, and expanded to six coaches in 2014 and further to eight coaches in 2023, it stated. India's key property market Delhi-NCR has remained buoyant during the December quarter, with housing sales and new supply estimated to rise 25 per cent and 59 per cent, respectively, according to PropEquity. Real estate data analytic firm PropEquity data shows that housing sales in Delhi-NCR are likely to rise to 12,915 units during the October-December period of this calendar year from 10,354 units in the year-ago period. The Centre's panel on Delhi-NCR air quality has issued a revised plan to tackle winter pollution, asking states to implement stricter measures when the air quality deteriorates and making it mandatory for schools to shift to hybrid learning on days with severe air pollution. Poor air quality, driven by unfavourable weather conditions, usually persists for long periods during winter, from November to January. During this time, Delhi frequently enforces restrictions under the Graded Response Action Plan (GRAP), which categorises air quality into four stages: Stage I (Poor) with AQI between 201 and 300, Stage II (Very Poor) between 301 and 400, Stage III (Severe) between 401 and 450, and Stage IV (Severe Plus) for AQI above 450. According to the revised plan, inter-state buses from NCR states, except those EVs and those running CNG or BS-VI diesel, will not be allowed to enter Delhi under Stage II. The Delhi government has directed operators of the city's hotels, clubs and restaurants serving liquor to verify the age of their clients through hard copies of government-issued identity proofs after violations of the legal drinking age norm were detected. In Delhi, liquor is served only to persons aged 25 years and above. The excise department of the Delhi government, during routine inspections by its teams in recent days, found customers younger than 25 years having alcohol at bars, clubs and restaurants. The inspections also revealed that some customers were consuming liquor pretending to have completed 25 years. Complaints were also received by the department that some excise licensees were serving liquor to underage persons, officials said. Under the Delhi Excise Act, 2009, no person or licensed vendor or his employee or agent will sell or deliver liquor to any person apparently under the age of 25 years for personal or others' consumption. Authorities' crackdown on air pollution has hit violators hard in the city, with over Rs 260 crore in fines imposed on more than 2.6 lakh vehicles lacking Pollution Under Control Certificates (PUCC) in just 50 days. The crackdown was implemented under the Graded Response Action Plan (GRAP). Between October 16 and December 6, the Environment Department issued 260,258 challans across all four stages of GRAP. Breaking down the time period and stages, a total of 12,756 challans were imposed in Stage 1 from October 16 to October 22, 111,235 in Stage 2 between October 22 and November 14, 13,938 in Stage 3 from November 15 to November 17, and 114,089 in Stage 4 from November 18 to December 5. Meanwhile, 8,240 challans were issued in Stage 2 after Stage 4 restrictions were lifted on Thursday, with Stage 2 restrictions remaining in effect, according to official data. India's eight major cities saw an average 11 per cent increase in housing prices annually during the September quarter on strong demand, with Delhi-NCR witnessing the highest appreciation at 32 per cent, according to a report. Realtors' apex body CREDAI, real estate consultant Colliers and data analytic firm Liases Foras on Monday released their joint 'Housing Price-Tracker Report Q3 2024'. "Average housing prices across the top eight markets in India rose 11 per cent Y-o-Y (year-on-year) at Rs 11,000 per sq ft during Q3 (July-September) 2024, led by sturdy demand and positive market sentiments," the report said. The average housing prices have increased for the 15th consecutive quarter since 2021. All the eight major cities saw an annual increase in housing prices, the consultant said.
