Pedestrians most vulnerable to road accidents in 2023: Delhi Police report

Pedestrians continue to be the most vulnerable in road crashes in Delhi, accounting for 43 per cent of the victims, followed by two-wheelers, according to Delhi Road Crash Fatalities Report 2023. The number of deaths in road crashes decreased by 0.55 per cent from 1,264 in 2022 to 1,257 in 2023 in spite of an increase in the number of vehicles registered on road. There has also been an increase in the number of prosecutions from 4,38,052 in 2022 to 6,39,097 in 2023, along with other corrective measures taken by the traffic unit, police said. The report released on Wednesday by Delhi Police Commissioner Sanjay Arora contains an analysis of the accidents that occurred last year along with the causes, patterns and suggestions in road design, regulation and prosecution. The report will help the police outline a road safety action plan which will involve the joint efforts of multiple departments to improve education, engineering, enforcement, and emergency care. Delhi police fines motorists Rs 47 cr in 3 weeks for PUC violations

Amid a rise in air pollution levels in the national capital, the traffic police have imposed penalties to the tune of Rs 47 crore on motorists between October 1 and 24 for pollution certificate violations, an official said on Wednesday. The traffic police have issued over 47,000 challans to motorists. A fine of Rs 10,000 is imposed on motorists for not having a valid pollution under control (PUC) certificate. These challans get released from courts. According to the data provided by the Delhi Traffic Police, a special drive was launched this month in which 47,363 challans for PUC violations were issued to motorists between October 1 and 24. An official said the number of vehicles has increased significantly in the city, causing pollution. Police writes to Telegram to probe Khalistan link to Delhi's Rohini blast

Probing a possible Khalistani link to the explosion near a CRPF school in Rohini, the Delhi Police on Monday wrote to the social messaging app Telegram, seeking information about a 'channel' which claimed that the blast was in retaliation to the "targeting" of pro-Khalistan separatists allegedly by Indian agents. Police sources also said that the CCTV footage of a suspect from the night before the incident was recovered and more than two dozen people spotted near the site just before the explosion have been questioned. Hours after the blast on Sunday, a purported Telegram post by a channel named 'Justice League India' was circulated on social media. The post had a video of the blast with a "Khalistan Zindabad" watermark at the bottom. Delhi Police tightens security, alerts railway and metro after Rohini blast

Delhi Police has beefed up security arrangements in various markets, which are bustling with shoppers during the festival season, and asked the railway and Metro staff to be on high alert following the blast in front of CRPF school in Rohini's Prashant Vihar area, officials said on Monday. The strong explosion ripped through a wall of the CRPF school on Sunday morning. No one was hurt in the blast which also damaged hoardings of nearby shops and window panes of vehicles parked near the site. "We have asked our staff to keep a tight vigil on every single railway and metro station. Additional force deployment will be made to check any suspicious activities," a senior police officer said. The officer said that joint patrolling teams with the Railway Protection Force (RPF), Government Railway Police (GRP) and other stakeholders have been deployed. Bomb threats: Delhi Police writes to social sites to get offenders' details

Intensifying its probe on the hoax bomb threats received by several domestic and international flights, Delhi Police on Thursday wrote to social media platforms seeking details of the accounts that posted threatening messages. Delhi Police on Wednesday registered an FIR in connection with the bomb threat to Bengaluru-bound Akasa Air flight carrying 180 people and also launched a probe in seven other similar cases reported at Indira Gandhi International (IGI) Airport this month. A senior police officer said a dedicated team has been formed to probe bomb threat cases. A team of cyber cell of Delhi police, Intelligence Fusion & Strategic Operations (IFSO) has also been roped in for the probe. Delhi Police registers FIR, begins probe in 7 hoax threats to flights

The Delhi Police has registered an FIR in connection with bomb threats to several domestic and international flights in the last two days and launched a probe into the matter, official sources said on Wednesday. A Bengaluru-bound Akasa Air flight with more than 180 people on board returned to the national capital on Wednesday afternoon following a bomb threat. Deputy Commissioner of Police (IGI) Usha Rangnani said, "Airport police has responded to seven incidents involving reported bomb threats this month. After thorough verifications and inspection, all threats were confirmed to be hoaxes." Solicitor General Tushar Mehta on Thursday told the Delhi High Court that climate activist Sonam Wangchuk and his associates have been released from detention.
