Home Ministry seeks report from Delhi Police on Kanjhawala incident

On the direction of Home Minister Amit Shah, the ministry has sought a detailed report from the Delhi Police on the gruesome death of a woman in outer Delhi's Kanjhawala, officials said on Monday as outrage mounted over the case. The 20-year-old woman was killed after her scooter was hit by a car and she was dragged for about 10-12 kilometres. Acting promptly, the Delhi Police constituted an inquiry committee, headed by Special Commissioner Shalini Singh, and asked her to submit a probe report as early as possible. As directed by the home minister, the MHA has asked the Delhi Police to submit a detailed report on the Kanjhawala incident, an official said. Delhi accident: Medical board to conduct autopsy of woman, say police

Police on Monday said the woman who died after her two-wheeler was hit by a car in outer Delhi was dragged 12 km from Sultanpuri to Kanjhawala under the vehicle and a medical board has been constituted to conduct the post-mortem. Addressing a press conference here, Special Commissioner of Police (Law and Order) Sagar Preet Hooda said fresh charges could be added against the five accused arrested in connection with the case on the basis of the post-mortem report. The accused have been booked on charges of culpable homicide not amounting to murder, causing death by negligence and criminal conspiracy, according to police. "The accused will be taken to the scene of the crime and their story will be verified. Heavy traffic near Ashram, commuters asked to take alternative route

Bumper-to-bumper traffic on Monday clogged roads near the Ashram flyover that has been closed for 45 days for the construction of a link-artery, officials said. Some commuters took to Twitter to share photos of jams, while many travelling on the route, during the peak hours, claimed they spent around half an hour to cross the section. There is heavy traffic in the area, the officials said and added that several people called police to report jams. Delhi witnesses massive traffic jams on New Year including India Gate

Massive traffic jams were witnessed on Sunday in several parts of the national capital, including at Connaught Place and India Gate, where thousands of people gathered to celebrate the New Year. According to police, heavy snarls were also reported from ITO intersection and near Akshardham temple. Over 300 challan issued for drunk driving on New Year's Eve: Delhi Police

Delhi Police issued over 300 challans for drunk driving in the national capital on New Year's Eve, an increase of over 12 times compared to the previous year, officials said on Sunday. According to the official data shared by police, a total of 1,329 challans were issued for committing various traffic violations. Of the total, 318 people were fined for drunk driving, 175 for dangerous driving, 55 for driving on the wrong side, 47 for triple riding, 70 for minor driving, and 664 for driving without a helmet, while 53 vehicles were impounded on the spot, it said. Traffic police deployed 114 teams, armed with breath analyzers, to check drunk driving on Saturday, they said. Health clinic for sex workers, their families opened in Delhi's G B Road

A first-ever health clinic for sex workers and their families has been opened in Delhi's red-light area, G B Road, with facilities for routine check-ups and treatment. The clinic was inaugurated on Sunday. It has been started in a part of a non-functional school by some civil society groups. Shalini (name changed), a sex worker, said she hopes the facility will help her fight the stigma that she faces in visiting clinics in other parts of the city. "Even doctors start behaving differently when they learn we are sex workers and this clinic can help change that as it is meant just for people like us," she told PTI. Minimum temperature drops to 5.5 degree Celsius in Delhi, says IMD

The minimum temperature in the national capital on Sunday dipped to 5.5 degrees Celsius, two notches below the season's average, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) said. The minimum temperature in the city was recorded at 10.7 and 10.2 degrees Celsius on Friday and Saturday. A drop in visibility too was recorded in several parts of the country. Visibility in Ambala, Dehradun, Bareilly, and Varanasi was recorded at 25 metres at 5.30 am. While in Chandigarh, Patiala, Baharaich, Gaya, Purnea, Kailashahar, and Agartala, it was recorded at 50 metres, officials said. According to the IMD, 'very dense' fog is when visibility is between 0 and 50 metres, 51 and 200 metres is 'dense', 201 and 500 metres 'moderate', and 501 and 1,000 metres 'shallow'. The weatherman predicted a mainly clear sky on Sunday, with the maximum temperature likely to settle around 19 degrees Celsius. 70,000 seats remain vacant across DU colleges in 2022-23 academic session

The Delhi University (DU) has failed to fill 70,000 seats in the current academic session despite its best efforts, as seven per cent seats across all its colleges remain vacant. Saturday was the last day of admissions at the university for the 2022-23 academic session. Around 65,000 students have been admitted to undergraduate courses this academic session, an official said. He added that the university has inducted 11,300 postgraduate students in various courses. "We have been able to fill around 65,000 seats across 70 colleges for the academic session. Today was the last day of admissions," DU's Dean of Admission Haneet Gandhi said. This is the first time that the university admitted students through the Common University Entrance Test (CUET), giving up the old practice of taking admissions on the basis of the students' Class-12 score. Delhi LG eases licensing norms; bars in 5&4-star hotels to operate 24x7

All restaurants in 5-star and 4-star hotels in Delhi will now be allowed to operate round-the-clock, according to the new licensing norms aimed at boosting the national capital's night economy. Delhi witnessed dense fog in parts of the city on Saturday, with the minimum temperature settling at 10.2 degrees Celsius, three notches above the season's average, the India Meteorological Department said.
