Dell expects new hiring, economic growth to drive commercial PC sales

PC maker Dell Technologies is banking on new hirings, replacements and growth in the Indian economy to drive sales of its commercial devices this fiscal, a senior company said. While speaking at the launch of a new commercial personal computers portfolio, Dell Technologies India, Senior Director and General Manager, Client Solutions Group, Indrajit Belgundi said that faster technology adoption is another factor that will drive sales of commercial devices unveiled by the company. "Every year new students are joining the workforce. Refresh cycle is also coming in. New version of technology is now coming in and many customers who took devices during the pandemic are now looking to upgrade. Also, India's GDP is expected to grow at 6.8 per cent. I personally think the opportunity for us to grow will be higher than that GDP growth," Belgundi said. Global technology major Dell Technologies is banking on gamers and college and school-going youth to drive its business this year, according to a senior company official. While launching new laptop models across XPS, Alienware and Inspiron portfolio, Dell Technologies Vice President and Managing Director for Consumer and Small Business Raj Kumar Rishi said that the company will stick to its strategy of bringing the latest technologies across various price points and focus on financing of laptops to make devices affordable for consumers. The government aims to meet up to 70 per cent of the country's IT hardware requirement through local production in the next three years and reduce dependency on imports from non-trusted sources, Minister of State for Electronics and IT Rajeev Chandrasekhar said on Friday. Speaking to reporters, Chandrasekhar said Ministry of Electronics and IT will share a draft of IT hardware import rules with industry players later in the day as it looks to curb dependence on supplies from non-trusted sources. "At present, almost 80 per cent of our supplies to the digital ecosystem come from imports. We want to make sure whatever the sources are, they are trusted. As part of emphasising trust, it is obvious that the Indian component of that supply chain will have to grow. Today 8-10 per cent of our supply requirement comes from India, we want to make that 65-70 per cent in the next three years," the minister said. 40 firms commit to make IT hardware worth Rs 4.65 trn under PLI scheme

As many as 40 companies, including Dell, HP, and Lenovo, have applied for the IT hardware PLI scheme with a commitment to make personal computers, laptops, tablets, servers and other equipment worth Rs 4.65 lakh crore during the scheme period, an official statement said on Thursday. If all companies get selected under the scheme then the government will need to increase the incentive amount to Rs 22,890 crore against the budgetary allocation of Rs 17,000 crore, according to the note. "Total 40 applications have been submitted till the closure of the window on August 30. The scheme has been oversubscribed. Against The budgetary allocation of Rs 7,000 crore, applicants have projected PLI amount to the tune of 22,890 crore. Further, the production figure projected by these applicants is Rs 4.65 Lakh crore against the target of 3.35 lakh crore," the statement said.
