Wall collapse kills 2, injures 3 of same family in Guj's Surat
Two persons were Saturday killed and three others injured, all from the same family, in a wall collapse in Surat's Mirzapur area, police said. The wall of Pravin Patel's house under Olpad police station limits was being brought down when it gave way, an official said. "The wall of an old house of Pravin Patel was being brought down as family members planned to construct a new house in its place. It suddenly collapsed on five members of the family," the police official said. Patel (65) and his grandson Kevin Patel (13) were declared dead on arrival after they were rushed to a nearby government hospital, he said. Patel's wife Urmilaben, their granddaughter Archana (15) and grandson Jignesh (14) sustained injuries and are hospitalised, the official added.
Three die in Spain building fire, baby critical
Three people died Saturday in a fire in an apartment block in northeastern Spain and at least 16 others were injured, including a baby boy who is critical, firefighters said. The cause of the blaze in Badalona was as yet unknown as was the identity and ages of the three victims, a spokeswoman for firefighters in the region of Catalonia told AFP. Among the injured are a baby boy, who is critical, and two adults in serious condition, the firefighting department said on its Twitter feed. The blaze had been extinguished by late morning, leaving the 10-storey building streaked with large black marks.
IndiGo plane returns after mid-air engine failure, govt to review incident
An IndiGo Airbus A320neo plane flying to Kolkata from Chennai suffered a mid-air engine failure with a "loud bang" and was forced to return mid-way Thursday, prompting the civil aviation ministry to order a review. The January 3 incident, which came to light on Saturday, is the latest in a series of cases involving a Pratt & Whitney engine. The plane returned mid-way to Chennai and has been grounded there since then due to damaged engine blades, sources said. An IndiGo spokesperson said in a statement that its crew took note of a "technical caution" and decided to return the flight to Chennai, even as sources said the engine of the aircraft stalled mid-air with a "loud bang". When contacted, Civil Aviation Secretary R N Choubey told PTI, "Ministry has taken serious note (of the incident) and we will review it on Tuesday." An Indian student died after falling from cliffs in Ireland while clicking a 'selfie', media reports said. The man, whose identity was not immediately known, is said to be an Indian national studying in Dublin, The Irish Sun reported. He was visiting the popular tourist attraction on Friday afternoon when the incident happened south of the main viewing areas near the visitor centre. There were hundreds of people when the man fell from the Cliffs. Search and rescue officials were mobilised as soon as an alarm was raised. His body was recovered with the help of a helicopter. The runway was cleared and the visibility improved, resulting in resumption of flight operations after nearly 24 hours, he said. "Only five flights could operate on Saturday. Three landed at the airport on Saturday, while two were parked at the aerodrome since Friday," the official said. All other flights were cancelled, he said.
5 killed in scaffolding collapse in China
Five people were killed after a scaffolding made of bamboo collapsed in eastern China's Fujian province on Saturday, local authorities said. The municipal government of Putian city said five people were also injured after the scaffolding crashed causing workers to fall at a house under construction in the village of Keshan. Four people died on the spot while others injured in the incident were sent to hospital, where another person died, state-run Xinhua news agency reported.

Firefighters in Spain say that three people have been killed and more have been injured after a fire broke out in an apartment building in a town near Barcelona. Two persons were killed and five others injured in a collision between two cars in Uttar Pradesh's Fatehgarh town on Saturday, police said. The accident took place at the Rae Bareli-Jaunpur highway in Fatehganj at around 6 am, they said. "The deceased have been identified as Sandeep Srivastava (38) and his wife Meenakshi (34), who were returning to Azamgarh from Lucknow along with their six-year-old son," Additional Superintendent of Police (City) Anil Kumar Pandey said. The minor boy sustained injuries in the collision. Four occupants of the other car were also injured, Pandey said. All the injured were admitted to the district hospital, he added. The bodies of the deceased have been sent for a post mortem examination, the police said.

The Basti district administration has started a helpline for the public to report stray cattle. Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath had recently given all district magistrates about a week's time to ensure all stray cattle across the state were shifted to cow shelters. "Many people narrate to me stories of stray cattle, which have been left in the open by their owners, how they ( the cattle) escaped an accident or how they were hit by a speeding vehicle. In these circumstances, the public does not know where to call for assistance," said District Magistrate of Basti Raj Shekhar. 6 children, driver killed after school bus falls into gorge in Himachal Pradesh
Six children and the driver of their school bus were killed on Saturday when the vehicle fell into a gorge in Himachal Pradesh's Sirmaur district, police said. The accident in which 12 schoolchildren were also injured occurred in Sangrah town around 8 AM. "A private bus carrying students of DAV School, Renuka, fell into a gorge. Seven people -- six schoolchildren and the bus driver -- were killed," Superintendent of Police, Sirmaur, Rohit Malpani said.
