Seven people were killed and four injured when a vehicle rammed into two SUVs due to heavy fog on the Ambala-Chandigarh national highway on Saturday, police said. "Two cars coming from Chandigarh were hit by another vehicle. The accident took place as heavy fog limited visibility. The injured people have been hospitalised," they said. A dozen godowns were gutted in two separate fire incidents Friday in the powerloom town of Bhiwandi near here in Maharashtra, but no casualty was reported, fire brigade sources said. A fire broke out in godowns housing paper and cardboard items located in Jairaj Complex of the town at around 5.30 pm, fire brigade sources said. At least 11 godowns were destroyed in the inferno whose cause was not yet known, the sources said. Fire fighters from Thane, Bhiwandi, Kalyan and Ambernath were engaged in dousing the flames, they said. There was no casualty, the sources added. The second fire incident in Bhiwandi took place in the wee hours, destroying a scrap godown, fire brigade officials said. Items stored in the godown, a tailoring shop nearby and some motorcycles were destroyed in the blaze, the cause of which was not immediately known, they said, adding no one was injured.
Three persons were injured Friday after a DTC cluster bus allegedly hit four cars, an e-rickshaw and a scooter parked on the left side of the road near a metro pillar in Dwarka's Uttam Nagar area, police said. The incident took place at around 4 pm, they said. Indian Navy divers on Saturday will join the operation underway to rescue 15 miners trapped inside a flooded rat-hole coal mine in Meghalaya since December 13, officials said Friday. The Navy spokesman said in a tweet that a 15-member diving team from Visakhapatnam in Andhra Pradesh will reach the site in the remote Lumthari village in East Jaintia Hills district Saturday morning. Four labourers at an illegal noodles factory on Maholi road here suffered severe burn injuries Friday after a gas leak caused fire in the unit, police said. The fire broke out after the labourers opened the door of a heater room meant for drying noodles, unaware about the leakage in the gas pipeline since Thursday night, they said. The mishap took place near Kandarpur when the bus carrying picnickers from Bhubaneswar to Paradip collided with the dumper coming from the opposite direction, they said. The driver of the dumper died on the spot, while the bus helper succumbed to injuries on the way to the hospital, police said. The injured were shifted to SCB Medical College and Hospital here.
