A US-Bangla Airlines flight from Dhaka to Kolkata reported a bird hit while landing at the N S C Bose International Airport here Monday, airport sources said. After landing, an inspection was carried out and no damage to the aircraft was found, an Airports Authority of India (AAI) spokesperson at Kolkata said. The time of the arrival of the Dhaka-Kolkata flight number BS 201 was 10.19 am. The flight departed for Dhaka at 12.05 pm, the spokesperson added.
India's coal imports rose 9.7 per cent to 156.08 million tonne (MT) in the April-November period of the ongoing fiscal, as against 142.25 MT in the year-ago period, according to a report by mjunction services. Four persons including three women were killed in a road accident in Mizoram on Sunday, police said. Five persons were travelling in a car when it met with an accident at Ngopa village near Mizoram-Manipur border, they said. Four persons were killed while one was injured in the mishap. The death toll in Saturday's collision between a truck and a van in Maharashtra's Chandrapur district climbed to 11 Sunday, with a 30-year-old man succumbing to his injuries in civil hospital here, the police said. The accident occurred around 9:30 pm when the van, with 14 occupants, was travelling on the Korpana-Wani road, they said. A helicopter crashed Sunday in eastern Sudan, killing at least five local officials who were on board, state media reported. Witnesses said the helicopter caught fire after hitting a communications tower as it tried to land in a field in the state of Al-Qadarif. Boundary walls would be raised at accident-prone spots along rail tracks to stop people from crossing in those areas, Director General of Railway Police Force (RPF) Arun Kumar said here Sunday. Two men were killed after their motorcycle rammed into a truck on the Mumbai-Agra national highway Saturday, the police said Sunday. Police said the deceased Sagar Shejval (24) and Sandeep Gavare (30), both sons of police personnel, were not wearing helmets and apparently speeding when the incident occurred last night. Meanwhile, Nashik Police have stated that 115 motorcycle riders have been killed this year in road accidents. "A total of 112 of 115 motorcycle riders who died in accidents were found to be not wearing helmets," the police said in a press release. It also said that 12 motorists have been killed this year. The Motor Accident Claims Tribunal Saturday awarded a compensation of Rs 1.05 crore to the kin of a man who died in a road accident in Maharashtra's Jalna district over eight years ago. Ashish Vinodkumar Shrisundar, a civil engineer and government contractor, was severely injured on June 11, 2010 after the sports utility vehicle he was travelling in overturned on the Mumbai-Ahmednagar Highway at Vijaypur, his lawyer Rehmat Ali said Sunday. After being bed-ridden and under treatment at various hospitals for nine months, Shrisundar succumbed to his injuries leaving behind his wife, mother and two minor children, Ali added. Thirteen people, including four women and a minor, were killed and 36 others injured Saturday in two separate accidents in Poonch and Samba districts of Jammu and Kashmir, police said. In the first incident, a 42-seater passenger bus skidded off a road and rolled down into a 100m deep gorge at Plera in Mandi area of Poonch district, resulting in the death of 13 persons and injuring 17 others, a police officer said. The bus was coming from Loran to Poonch, and on reaching Plera. its driver lost control while negotiating a curve resulting in the accident, the officer said.
