Goods train derails in UP, one injured

One person was injured as two coaches of a goods train derailed between Kamalganj and Khudaganj stations of Uttar Pradesh's Farrukhabad district on Saturday. The incident took place early morning on the Farrukhabad-Kanpur-Anwarganj rail section, causing minor injuries to the train guard, North Eastern Railway Public Relations Cell said. The incident led to disruption of rail traffic on the Farrukhabad-Kanpur route, it said. Senior railway officials have rushed to the spot and repair work is underway in full swing, it said, adding that the route is likely to be operational soon.

One dead, 15 injured as bus overturns

A man was killed and around 15 others injured, three of them seriously, when the private bus they were travelling in overturned in Mahasamund district of Chhattisgarh on Saturday, police said. The incident took place around 3 pm under Tendukona police station limits when the bus, with 25 passengers on board, was going towards Pithora town from Bagbahra in the district, a police official told PTI. According to passengers, the bus was speeding and its driver lost control over it at Urridongri curve due to which the vehicle overturned and skidded off the road, he added. "A passenger died on the spot and around 15 others were injured. They were taken to a community health centre in Pithora. Three of them are said to be in a critical condition," he added. A case has been registered in this connection, he said, adding that the deceased passenger was yet to be identified.

Tension grips UP's Jalaun district after recovery of cattle carcasses

Tension prevailed in Uttar Pradesh's Jalaun district Saturday after carcasses of cattle that died in a nearby cow shelter were recovered, police said Saturday. Jalaun Superintendent of Police Arvind Chaturvedi said the cattle in the shelter, that houses 500 cows, were either suffering from different diseases or injuries sustained during road accidents. He ruled out the incident as that of cow slaughter. A total of seven cow and calf carcasses were found in the area on Friday evening which were buried soon after, Chaturvedi said, adding the carcasses appear to be about 15 days old. The cattle died in the shelter run by Rajendra Gaudas, a local villager, the SP said. The SP said that Gaudas has been instructed to ensure proper disposal of dead cows and calves in future or else stern action will be taken against him. Security has been beefed up in and around the village to keep vigil and ward off any incident of violence, the SP added.

At least six people died and dozens were injured in a stampede when panic broke out during a rap concert at an Italian nightclub early Saturday. Six people were killed in a stampede at an Italian nightclub here in the wee hours of Saturday morning, country's Civil Protection Agency informed.Al Jazeera cited Italian news agency ANSA reporting that 120 people were injured in the stampede that occurred at Lanterna Azzurra nightclub in the central Italy town of Corinaldo, about 88 miles (141 km) east of Florence. 11 dead after bus plunges into gorge in Poonch

As many as 11 people were killed and several injured after a passenger bus skidded off a steep mountain road and plunged into a deep gorge in Pooch district of Jammu and Kashmir on Saturday.The accident occurred when the bus carrying dozens of passengers was heading towards Loran area from Poonch this morning.The actual cause of the accident is yet to be ascertained.The injured passengers have been rushed to the nearby hospital for treatment. At least 11 people were killed and 19 others injured Saturday when a passenger bus skidded off a road and plunged into a deep gorge in Poonch district of Jammu and Kashmir, police said. The accident occurred at Plera when the driver of the bus, coming from Loran to Poonch, lost control over the vehicle while negotiating a curve and rolled down into a 100-meter gorge, a police official said. Quoting preliminary information, he said 11 persons were killed on the spot while 19 others were injured in the accident. The death toll is expected to go up as the condition of most of the injured was stated to be critical, the official said. A rescue operation is on and further details are awaited, he said.

2 US warplanes crash off Japan; 1 crew dead, 5 missing

One of two crew members recovered after two US warplanes collided and crashed off Japan's coast early Thursday is dead and five others remain missing, the US military said. The Marine Corps said the other recovered crew member was in fair condition. Both were in an F/A-18 Hornet fighter jet that collided with a KC-130 Hercules refueling aircraft during training at about 2 am after taking off from their base in Iwakuni, near Hiroshima. The five others were in the KC-130. The Marine Corps identified the dead crew member on Friday as Capt Jahmar Resilard, 28, of Miramar, Florida, an F/A-18 pilot with Marine All Weather Fighter Attack Squadron 242. The Marines said in a statement that the two planes were involved in routine training, including aerial refuelling, but that it was still investigating what caused the crash. HC seeks Centre's reply on plea against DGCA on cabin crew's duty time

The Delhi High Court on Friday sought response of the Centre and aviation regulator DGCA on a plea alleging that under the new Civil Aviation Requirements (CAR) on Flight Duty Time Limit (FDTL), rest period of cabin crew has been reduced as compared to pilots. Justice Vibhu Bakhru issued notice to the Ministry of Civil Aviation and Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) seeking their response to the petition by an association which has sought that cabin crew be treated at par with pilots while laying down the flight duty periods (FDPs). The All India Cabin Crew Association (AICCA) has in its plea challenged the DGCA's current CAR I on FDTL, which was notified on November 1, and the subsequent draft CAR the regulator is in the process of finalising, saying these regulations are "prejudicial to the safety of the passengers".
