Leicester City crash helicopter rotor pedals failed: probe

Disconnected cockpit pedals caused the helicopter crashed that killed the Thai billionaire owner of Leicester City football club and four others on October 28, a British investigation found on Thursday. The death of Vichai Srivaddhanaprabha shocked global sport and left the small city in the heart of England in mourning two years after their improbable first and only championship season. The helicopter, decorated the blue and white colours of the team, spun out of control on takeoff moments after it cleared the stadium's roof. Vichai attended most Leicester home matches, landing and taking off from the centre of the pitch. Britain's Air Accident Investigation Branch (AAIB) said a series of cockpit pedals had somehow become disconnected from the rotor on the helicopter's tail. "The loss of control of the helicopter resulted from the tail rotor actuator control shaft becoming disconnected from the actuator lever mechanism," the eight-page AAIB report said. The helicopter began to spin ..

The Supreme Court on Thursday termed as "unacceptable" the death of nearly 15,000 people in road accidents caused by potholes in the last five years and said the number was probably more than those killed on the border or by terrorists. This indicates that authorities concerned are not maintaining the roads properly, a bench headed by Justice Madan B Lokur said. "It is unacceptable that such a large number of death takes place on roads due to potholes," said the bench, which also comprised Justices Deepak Gupta and Hemant Gupta. The bench perused a report filed by the Supreme Court Committee on Road Safety, headed by former apex court judge Justice K S Radhakrishnan, which said 14,926 persons had died in road accidents due to potholes from 2013 to 2017 across the country. "It is almost 15,000 deaths in five years, probably more that those killed on border or by terrorists," the bench said, adding, "These are government figures". The bench asked the Centre to file their response on the

Amritsar train accident: Probe gives clean chit to Sidhu's wife

A magisterial probe into the Amritsar train tragedy in which around 60 people died, has apparently given a "clean chit" to Navjot Kaur Sidhu, wife of Punjab minister Navjot Singh Sidhu, who was the chief guest at the Dussehra event. Jalandhar Divisional Commissioner B Purushartha-- appointed the special executive magistrate by the government to probe the accident-- indicted the son of a Congress councillor, who organised the event as well as officials of Amritsar district administration, municipal corporation, railways and local police, official sources said. The crowd was watching the burning of a Ravana effigy near Joda Phatak on October 19 when they were mowed down by a passing train. A 300-page report of magisterial probe into the accident was submitted to the Punjab Home Secretary last month. The report stressed that Saurabh Mithu Madan, son of the Congress councillor and a close aide of the Sidhus, should have ensured safety of people at the venue, official sources said. The ...
