Ukraine's General Staff said Tuesday that two pilots died when a Sukhoi fighter jet crashed during large-scale military exercises with the United States and other NATO countries. Pakistan Navy Tuesday commissioned an indigenously built 17,000-tonne fleet tanker - the biggest warship ever constructed at Karachi Shipyard - to its fleet, strengthening the country's maritime defence. Russian cosmonaut Aleksey Ovchinin on Tuesday said the G-force during last week's emergency landing of the Soyuz spacecraft felt like a concrete block on his chest but he and NASA astronaut Nick Hague are now in "great" health. Ovchinin and Hague were forced to make an emergency landing after an accident on their rocket minutes after blast-off to the International Space Station, with the rapid deceleration subjecting them to a painful G-force overload. In an interview with state Rossiya-24 television, Ovchinin said that "the direction of this (G-force) overload during the descent was from the chest to the back, so imagine that somebody put a big concrete block on your chest that is seven times your weight." In a rare incident, a snake appeared in the apron area of the newly-built Islamabad International Airport (IIA) on Tuesday, creating confusion and panic among the on-duty ground staff, according to a media report. This is the second incident of animal being found inside the airport premises. Earlier this month, a IIA airport manager was dismissed by the country's Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) after a video of five stray dogs, wandering outside the airport's lounge in the basement, went viral. The Punjab Food Safety team has found adulterated sweets hidden in two vehicles carrying newspapers, Commissioner Food and Drug Administration (FDA), Kahan Singh Pannu, said Tuesday. In the first incident, the team intercepted a vehicle at 4:30 am in Pathankot for checking. During inspection, the team found 150 kg 'boondi dana' and about 100 kg 'burfi', an official spokesman said here. The adulterated sweets were hidden in the vehicle which was carrying newspapers, he said. In another incident, the team intercepted another vehicle at Dhangu road in Pathankot and found 4.05 quintals of sweets hidden under newspapers, the spokesman said. The exercise was part of the Punjab FDA to keep a check on the distribution of adulterated food items in the state, he said.
A bus accident in West Bengal's Hooghly district on Tuesday left five people dead and 22 injured, police said.
Six persons were killed and 19 others injured when a bus fell into a canal from a bridge in Haripal village of Hooghly district Tuesday, police said. Three men and three women died when the bus, which was heading to Howrah from Arambagh with around 30 passengers, dashed against the cement railings of the bridge, breaking it, and fell into the Dakatia khal near Gojarmore at around 9 am, Hooghly Superintendent of Police, Sukesh Jain told PTI. "Six persons have died in the accident and 19 others, excluding one, are being treated at a hospital in Haripal. We have shifted one critically injured to a hospital in Kolkata," Jain said. The engine of BhatniVaranasi passenger train caught fire Tuesday near Bheempur village at Salempur in Uttar Pradesh's Deoria district, railway officials said. The Special Relief Commissioner (SRC) has directed the district collectors to provide ex-gratia to the next of the kin of those who died in the cyclone Titli and the resultant flood within three days. The Odisha government has earlier announced an ex-gratia of Rs 4 lakh each to the next of kin of the deceased.
