An 18-year-old student allegedly committed suicide at his residence in Maharashtra's Nagpur city.Saurabh Nagpurkar, who was studying engineering, in his suicide note, mentioned that he ended his life because he "saw the spirit of a boy" whom he had seen dying in a road accident.According to the cops, Saurabh witnessed the accident two months ago."He, in his dying statement, wrote that the ghost of a young boy who he saw getting killed in the road accident was calling him," police official Tulsiram Dhakulkar told ANI.In the note he also claimed that within a span of two months he met with the accidents twice, 'which were caused by the ghost of the accident victim'.The boy had told his family that he was scared, which allegedly went unheard, police said.

The Aircraft Accident Investigation Bureau (AAIB) has begun a probe into the mishap where a 53-year-old female flight attendant fell from a stationary Air India plane while closing its door at the Mumbai airport, an official said Tuesday. The flight attendant, who suffered serious injuries in the incident Monday, is stable and her right leg requires multiple surgeries, said authorities at the city-based Nanavati Hospital where she is being treated. Five passengers were killed and 20 more injured on Tuesday when a bus fell into a canal from a bridge in Haripal village of Hooghly district, police said. Two men and three women died when the bus, which was headed to Howrah from Arambagh, with around 30 passengers dashed against the cement railings of the bridge, breaking it, and fell into the Dakatia khal near Gojarmore at around 9 am, Hooghly Superintendent of Police Sukesh Jain told PTI. "Five people have died in the accident and 19 others, excluding one, are being treated at a hospital in Haripal. We have shifted one critically injured to a hospital in Kolkata," Jain said. Nobody was arrested in connection with the incident and police were looking for the driver, he said. The bus conductor was undergoing treatment at the hospital, Jain said. "A forensic team is on its way to examine the bus. Whether it was a mechanical snag or a fault of the driver is yet be ascertained," the SP said.

A 5.4-magnitude earthquake hit Jinghe County in Mongolian Autonomous Prefecture of Bortala, northwest China's Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region, Tuesday morning. The epicentre, with a depth of 10-km, was monitored at 44.19 degrees north latitude and 82.53 degrees east longitude, the China Earthquake Networks Centre said in a statement. The quake shook several townships within 50-km of the epicentre, although no casualties have been reported, state-run Xinhua news agency reported. The pendant lamps started to shake very strongly, and there were cracks in the walls, said a local resident. The quake also halted three trains in Xinjiang, according to the region's railway authorities. Hundreds of firefighters are heading toward the quake-hit area as part of the region's rescue efforts.

A Motor Accident Claims Tribunal (MACT) has awarded over Rs 50 lakh to the wife, minor children and aged parents of a man killed in a road accident in Delhi in 2016. MACT judge Justice Pawan Kumar Jain asked Royal Sundaram Alliance Insurance Company Limited, insurer of the offending vehicle to deposit Rs 47,45,000 and Rs 7,17,000 as interest to the family of the deceased. "Since, the offending vehicle was registered in the name of the respondent (Royal Sundaram Alliance Insurance Company Limited), it is directed to deposit the award amount of Rs 47,45,000 with interest @ 9 % per annum from the date of filing of claim petition,ie, February 7, 2017 till realization of the amount, within 30 days" the tribunal said. A teenager has allegedly committed suicide after reportedly experiencing psychological distress from witnessing a road accident earlier that killed a minor boy, Nagpur police said Tuesday. Engineering student Saurabh Nagpurkar (18), who hanged himself at his home in Teen Nal Chowk area here Sunday, left behind a suicide note to this effect, police said. Police said that Nagpurkar, while going to college, had witnessed a road accident about a month ago in which a minor boy lost his life. Nagpurkar also met with two minor road accidents which, according to his suicide note, were "caused" by the boy, killed in the earlier accident, "obstructing" his path, police said. He took the extreme step apparently due to distress over these events, police added. He is survived by his parents and elder sister, the official said. Tehsil police have registered a case of accidental death and are probing further, he informed.

At least 25 people were injured, six of them seriously, after a bus carrying them fell into a rivulet from a bridge in Govindapalli area of Malkangiri district, the police said. The mishap occurred when the bus carrying around 40 passengers from Jeypore in Koraput district was on its way to Balimela in Malkangiri in the evening of Monday. As the driver of the vehicle lost balance and the vehicle fell into the rivulet from a bridge, BSF personnel from a nearby camp and policemen rushed to the spot and carried out rescue operation, he said. Around 25 persons injured in the incident were taken to hospitals in Mathili, Khairput and Govindpalli.
