Kerala floods: Railways to transport relief materials for free

Union Railways Minister Piyush Goyal on Saturday announced that Railways will provide free transportation of relief material for Kerala through various state government agencies, Public Sector Undertakings (PSUs) and other Government agencies.Expressing his concern over Kerala floods, Goyal tweeted, "We are concerned about the well being of people affected by Kerala floods & the Central Govt. is committed to providing all possible help. Railways will now provide free transportation of relief material for Kerala through various State Govt. agencies, PSUs & other Govt. agencies."Kerala has been facing the worst flooding in a century. The death toll, ever since the monsoon season began this year, has crossed 300.Earlier, Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Chief Ministers of various states extended financial aid to the flood-hit state.

BPCL ensures fuel supply in Kerala for rescue operations

Bharat Petroleum Corporation Limited (BPCL) is taking all the necessary steps round-the-clock to make petroleum fuels available without any interruption in the flood-hit Kerala, especially for the rescue and relief operations.The BPCL has made all the arrangements in its Kochi Refinery to ensure normal operations."The Kochi Refinery management committee under Executive Director, Prasad K Panicker is reviewing the operation round the clock and a 24-hours control room has been opened to coordinate with external agencies," said the BPCL in a statement."The water pumping station of Kochi Refinery at Edamula, Aluva, that supplies water for the refinery operations has been flooded. Kerala floods: NDRF rescues 194 people, evacuates over 10,000 till now

The National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) has till now rescued 194 people and evacuated around 10,467 from flood-hit Kerala.A total of 55 NDRF teams are engaged in the rescue and relief work in the flood-affected Kerala. The teams are actively engaged to relocate the marooned people in the state."Total 15 teams are operational in Thrissur, 13 in Pathanamthitta, 11 in Alappuzha, five in Ernakulum, four in Idukki, three in Mallapuram and two each in Wayanad and Kozhikode," read the statement issued by the NDRF.Each team of NDRF is accompanied by doctors and paramedics and essential medicines to provide first aid to the people. Director General, NDRF is supervising the entire rescue operation in the state and a 24x7 NDRF control room is monitoring the situation round the clock.Kerala has been facing the worst flooding in a century. Raj SDRF team leaves for Kerala to provide relief to flood victims

A 27-member team of the Rajasthan State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) left for Kerala today with 12 boats from a special aircraft of the Indian Air Force to provide relief and assistance to those affected by the floods. As many as 194 people have lost their lives and 36 are missing in Kerala since August 8 due to rains and landslides, while over 3.14 lakh people have been moved to relief camps "We are in touch with the Additional Director General of Police, Police Headquarters of Kerala. Karna govt steps up relief, rescue ops in rain-hit Kodagu

Bolstered by the Army, Navy and Air force, the state government today intensified relief operations in Kodagu district, as six people were killed in rain-related incidents during the last 24 hours. Chief Minister H D Kumaraswamy undertook an aerial survey of the district which has been experiencing heavy rain for the past three days. Deputy chief minister Parameshwara tweeted today six people have been killed in Kodagu due to floods and landslides during the last 24 hours. Government has announced a compensation of Rs 5 lakh to the next of kin of each of the deceased, he said, adding that the government would take care of the treatment of the injured. Landslides were reported from some places in the district and authorities have stepped up efforts to rescue stranded people, officials said. "There is a severe situation for the past three days. Haryana govt orders girdawari of damaged crops

The Haryana government has ordered special girdawari (revenue assessment) of kharif crops in 59 villages of Yamunanagar, Karnal and Faridabad, which were damaged due to incessant rains and floods. Crops sown in about 9,443 acres have been affected due to heavy rains and floods. While stating this here today, Revenue and Disaster Management Minister Capt Abhimanyu said that orders have been issued after receiving reports in this regard from deputy commissioners concerned. The affected crops include paddy, bajra, cotton and other vegetables. The minister said that girdawari is being conducted on damaged crops in 26 villages of Yamunanagar. Crops sown in about 1,260 acres of these villages have been affected due to floods and heavy rains. He said that girdawari will be carried out in 15 villages of district Karnal. 18 bodies pulled from SW Pakistan mine after blast

Pakistani authorities said today they have now retrieved 18 bodies after a blast tore through a coal mine in southwest Pakistan earlier this week, including two rescuers who entered after the explosion. The mine caved in after workers used dynamite during an excavation in Sinjidi, some 45 kilometres east of Quetta, the capital of oil and gas rich Balochistan province. Rescue teams had pulled nine workers alive from different tunnels while eight had been found dead at the depth of 800 feet. "We later found bodies of another eight miners, who were buried at the depth of 4,000 feet, provincial chief mines inspector Muhammad Iftikhar told AFP. He said two of the five volunteers who entered the mine to rescue trapped workers despite warnings by authorities also lost their lives. Truckloads of relief material sent to flood-hit Kerala from Punjab

The Punjab government dispatched today truckloads of one lakh packets of relief material to flood-hit people in Kerala from the city. More than 190 people have lost their lives in the floods in Kerala, as per state disaster management authority. The trucks carrying relief material were flagged off by Food, Civil Supplies and Consumer Affairs Minister Bharat Bhushan Ashu and Member of Parliament Ravneet Singh Bittu from Guru Nanak Stadium, here, an official release said. Haryana govt announces Rs 10 Cr aid for flood-hit Kerala

Haryana Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar today said that the state government would provide financial assistance of Rs 10 crore to flood affected people and for rescue operations in Kerala.
