Will Ferrell hospitalized after serious car accident

Actor Will Ferrell was hospitalised following a serious car crash in Orange County, California. The "Daddy's Home 2" star was in a SUV that sideswiped and flipped after it was hit by another car, said Rafael Reynoso, spokesman for the California Highway Patrol, reported Variety Ferrell, 50, was travelling to Los Angeles, along with three other persons, after attending an event in San Diego. Ferrell and his colleague, Andrew Steele, were not seriously injured in the accident and were released from the hospital, a statement from United Talent Agency said. However, Mark Thompson, Ferrell's driver, and another passenger of the car, Carolina Barlow, are still hospitalised and receiving treatment. After technical snag, IAF helicopter makes precautionary landing

A Cheetah helicopter of Air Force made a precautionary landing in an open field, 36 kilometres from Naliya Air Force Station in Gujarat after it developed technical snag.The helicopter was on a routine mission when the incident took place yesterday.The crew carried out a precautionary landing as per Standard operating procedures (SOPs) in an open field.Soon after the incident, a Chetak helicopter was flown in with the technical team for rectification.Later, both the helicopters were flown back safely to base post rectification of the Cheetah by around 11:15 pm yesterday.

Family of Pak man killed in road mishap involving US mission's vehicle protests

The family of the Pakistani man killed in a road accident involving the vehicle of an American military attache today protested here demanding his arrest and a ban on leaving the country. Ateeq Baig, 22, was killed and another person injured when the bike they were riding was hit by the SUV driven by US defence and air attache Col Joseph Emanuel Hall in Islamabad last week. The US has said that the American military attache at the US embassy in Islamabad, who is charged with causing the death of the Pakistani national and injuring another in the road accident, enjoys diplomatic immunity and cannot be arrested or detained. The police registered the case but did not arrest the diplomat as he was protected under international immunity. However, police have asked the interior ministry to not let him leave the country during investigation of the case. 500 people to be recruited for fire services: Pb Minister

Punjab Cabinet Minister Navjot Singh Sidhu today said 500 people will be recruited for fire fighting services in the state. Listing out the measures taken by the government in the fire safety sector, he said a project worth Rs 500 crore with regard to the fire services sector has been sent to the Union government. "The state government is fully committed to the development as well as modernisation of fire services. It is part of this commitment that a fire directorate has been established and very soon a Fire Safety Act will also be in force for making every building compliant with the fire safety norms," Sidhu said here. The minister said 500 recruitments will be made in the fire services sector and a fire training institute would be established in Punjab. He said Chief Minister Amarinder Singh has allotted Rs 8 crore for purchasing fire suites and a Rs 11 crore order for purchasing 20 fire tenders will also be placed. HC raps DGCA for changing stipulated flight duty time limitations

Concerned over fatigued pilots and cabin crew posing a risk to passenger safety, the Delhi High Court today took to task aviation regulator DGCA for allowing airlines to change stipulated flight and duty time limitations (FDTLs). A bench of Acting Chief Justice Gita Mittal and Justice C Hari Shankar said that the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) was going against its own Aircraft Rules by allowing such changes and questioned its power to do so. "We cannot have regulations which go beyond the rules in order to cater to the market requirements of airlines. It is manifestly illegal and a threat to passenger safety. You have no power to permit variations (of FDTLs)," the court told the DGCA and added that if it wanted the power, it would have to get the Aircraft Act and Rules amended. Wildfires burn homes, force evacuations in Oklahoma

A wildfire in northwestern Oklahoma has burned more than 120,000 acres and forced hundreds of people to evacuate their homes. Woodward County Emergency Management Director Matt Lehenbaur said today that the fire has destroyed several homes near Woodward, about 200 kilometres northeast of Oklahoma City. He says no injuries have been reported. The Oklahoma Department of Emergency Management reports another fire has burned more than 21,000 acres near the town of Leedey, about 65 kilometres south of Woodward. The National Weather Service says dangerous fire weather conditions are expected in much of western Oklahoma and the Oklahoma Panhandle through tomorrow, with low humidity and strong winds of 32-48 kph and gusts of up to 50 80 kph.

3-member group formed for spending of road safety fund

A three-member lead group was constituted by Punjab Chief Minister Amarinder Singh to formulate a plan of action for targeted spending of the road safety fund and to further reduce accident rate in the state. Rs 20 crore has been made available to the fund this year. Though the state had reported the steepest annual decline in deaths caused by road accidents over a 10-year period, the chief minister made it clear that the number of road accidents need to be curtailed further to realise his government's vision of making Punjab accident-free. BSES launches campaign to prevent unplanned digging, outages

Unplanned digging of roads by utilities for repair and other works such as laying of cables and pipelines, is a major cause for of outages in many parts of the city, an analysis by power Discoms revealed. Outages across south, west , east and central Delhi areas are caused due to unplanned digging, with an average of around 800-1000 underground power cables getting damaged annually, said a spokesperson of BSES Discoms BYPL and BRPL. "Workers engaged by civic agencies, telecom operators and their contractors often inadvertently damage electricity cables while laying pipelines and cables," he said. "This not only causes outages, sometimes for long duration but also pose serious safety threat for people besides causing substantial monetary losses," the spokesperson said. These incidents can be prevented if the utilities inform the Discoms before undertaking digging so that necessary steps can be taken to save power cables from damage, the spokesperson said. Young Indian-American entrepreneur among 6 dead in Arizona plane crash

A young Indian-American entrepreneur was among six people killed when a small plane crashed on a golf course in a suburb of Phoenix in Arizona shortly after taking off from a nearby airport, authorities said today. They identified him as Anand Patel, 26, the founder of What's Happy Clothing. The plane, a Piper PA-24 Comanche, which was headed to Las Vegas crashed on Monday night onto a Scottsdale golf course, some 15 minutes after takeoff from the city airport. Police recovers vehicle parts, personal belongings of Indian family from US river

An inter-agency search and rescue team in California today recovered some personal items and numerous parts of a vehicle from a swollen river in which a missing Indian family was travelling last week. Personal belongings of the four members of the Thottapilly family from Santa Clarita in California, who were believed to be travelling through Humboldt and Mendocino County on US-101 while on a vacation, were also found by the team over a two-day period on Tuesday and Wednesday, officials said.
