Emirates flight makes unscheduled landing at Chennai airport
A Dubai-bound Emirates flight from Singapore with 298 passengers on-board made an unscheduled landing at the Chennai airport today due to technical reasons, airport sources said The pilot safely landed the aircraft at the airport after getting clearance from Air Traffic Control at 11.58 am, they said. Meanwhile, Emirates Airways said the aircraft was diverted to Chennai airport due to "technical reasons" and the officials were in the process of rebooking the flight to final destination. "Due to technical reasons the flight has diverted to Chennai. We are in the process of rebooking the flight to final destination and will send updated itinerary shortly", the airline said. The passengers were given accommodation by the airliner in the city.
Albania suffers floods, landslides after days of heavy rain
Albanian authorities say that heavy rain has caused flooding in more parts of country, with landslides damaging many roads. The defense ministry said Thursday that about 2,800 hectares (6,900 acres) of agricultural land and grasslands in the north-west have now been flooded. The heavy rain has obliged three hydropower stations in the north to release excess water after many rivers, including the main Drini River, swelled. Power is lacking in some rural areas, and some houses and many roads in the east and south of the country have been damaged from landslides. The rain is forecast to stop in the next few days.
India, UN agencies agree to rebuild 50,000 houses in Nepal

Container ship fire: One crew member dies; four still missing
A Thai national, who was among the 23 seamen rescued from the container ship of Maersk Line that caught fire in the Arabian Sea off the Lakshadweep coast, has died, the Directorate General of Shipping (DGS) said today. A search was on for the other four missing crew members, including one Indian, a Coast Guard official said. Fire continued to rage in the Singapore-flagged Maersk Honam, a 330-metre long vessel, where a massive blaze erupted on Tuesday night, forcing its 27 crew members to jump out into the sea waters. Among the 27 crew members 13 were Indians, including the captain, nine Filipinos, two Thai sailors, and one each from the UK, Romania and South Africa. While 23 crew members were rescued, one of them, a Thai sailor, died of burn injuries while being taken to Colombo, a DGS official said. Fire at a tea stall near RML hospital
A fire broke out at a tea stall near Ram Manohar Lohia Hospital here today, said an official from Delhi Fire Services. A call was received at 9:10 am and three fire tenders were rushed to the spot, the official said, adding that the fire was doused by 9:30 am. According to the official, no injuries were reported.
Auto driver killed as car driven by minor rams into 3-wheeler
An auto-rickshaw driver was killed after a car, driven by a minor, rammed into the three-wheeler on Kasturba Gandhi Marg early today, the police said. The car was being driven by a 17-year-old boy, who was accompanied by his friends, also minors. Police said the friends had come to Connaught Place for a spin. The Maruti Ciaz car belonged to the teenager's uncle, who is also likely to be booked for giving his car keys to a minor. According to the police, the teenager jumped a traffic signal and rammed into the auto-rickshaw at a turn between KG Marg and Tolstoy Marg. The three-wheeler driver, Shiv Shankar Mahato, 66, a resident of Mata Sundri Road, was thrown several metres in the air as a result of the collision and died on the spot. A passerby informed the police about the accident at around 6 am. The teenagers were also injured. The minor driver sustained head injuries and was taken to a hospital. Further investigations are underway.

UPS Airlines' flight suffers hydraulic failure, makes emergency landing

Road accident in Pak kills 6
A head-on collision between two cars in northwest Pakistan today killed six people, including a woman and a child. The passenger car was on its way to Dir district from the mountainous Chitral district in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa when it collided with another car near Ayun area and fell into a river, police said. Six people, including a woman and a child, were killed in the accident, they said. The rescue team has retrieved the bodies from the river, they said, adding that the incident had occurred due to speeding. Road accidents are common in Pakistan. Most of them are caused by careless driving, bad roads and faulty vehicles. Nine people were killed and 29 others injured when a passenger bus collided head-on with a truck on an inter-city highway on Monday. 7 killed in Bihar as vehicle collides with oil tanker
At least seven people were killed and as many injured when the vehicle they were travelling in collided with an oil tanker here today, police said. The accident took place in Sakara police station area at about 2 AM. Five people were killed on the spot, while two others succumbed to injuries while undergoing treatment at a hospital, Deputy Superintendent of Police, Muzaffarpur (East), Gaurav Pandey, said. He said seven people who were injured in the accident were admitted to a hospital. The accident victims were returning from Tajpur, Samastipur district, where they had gone to attend a wedding, Pandey said. The oil tanker was seized, but the driver fled, he said.

Bus veers off road in Peru killing at least 10
A bus veered off course and plunged 100 meters down a gorge in Peru's southeastern Andean region of Ayacucho, killing at least 10 passengers and injuring more than 20, police said. The bus, which had more than 50 people on board, tumbled off the road in the early hours of the morning on the Interoceanic Highway, which connects Peru with Brazil. "We have so far recorded 10 deaths after a bus fell into a 100 metre (325 feet) gorge," said Jose Ramirez, an police official in Puquio, the closest town to where the accident took place. The bus was traveling from the capital Lima to Querobamba, Sucre province, which is located over 3,500 metres above sea level. Over 20 injured passengers were taken to hospital in Puquio and Huanta, another nearby town. There were two other deadly bus crashes in Peru in January and February, which killed 97 people in total.

Delhi govt launches project to equip buses with panic alarm system
On the eve of International Womens Day, the Delhi government today launched a pilot project for equipping public buses with 'panic alarm system' to ensure safety of women passengers. Delhi Transport Minister Kailash Gahlot announced that all buses in the national capital will have panic buttons by March 2019. "Panic alarms in buses will add the third line of defence to ensure women safety in Delhi buses. Several killed in Chechnya helicopter crash
Several people were killed in a helicopter crash in the mountains of Russia's North Caucasus region of Chechnya on Wednesday, officials said. "A helicopter of the border guard service crashed.
