Mojo's Bistro, the pub in the central Mumbai building that caught fire shortly after midnight, today said its guests were escorted out safely and denied that it had any cylinders on its premises. Fourteen people were killed in the fire that started after 12.30 am in the 1 Above pub on the terrace of the building in Lower Parel and spread to Mojo's Bistro on the third floor, one level below. Eyewitnesses said LPG cylinders, bigger than the ones used in homes, were kept close to the spot, which may have led to the flames spreading. In a statement, Mojo's Bistro denied that it had any cylinders on its premises. "Our staff were able to evacuate all our guests and themselves out to safety with zero injury. A minor fire broke out today at the pier of a bridge being constructed on Mandovi river. "A minor fire broke out today afternoon at pier 33 of the new Mandovi bridge. Short circuit in a power cable set on fire the hessian cloth that is wrapped around piers during the construction phase to cure the concrete," Siddharth Kuncolienkar, Vice Chairman of Goa Infrastructure Development Corporation said. The bridge is being built under the supervision of the GIDC. He added that the fire was doused immediately and the contractor had been asked to submit a report on it. The bridge, the third one on the river connecting Panaji, is expected to be ready by the middle of next year.
Two persons were killed and one was injured critically when a tanker hit their car on Yamuna Expressway, police said today. The incident occurred near the ATS building on Agra-Noida road in the Rabupura area yesterday when the car was heading to Noida, they said. Three persons, travelling in the car, were critically injured, police said, adding that they were rushed to Kailash hospital where two among them were declared as brought dead. They have been identified as Sachin and Rohit. The injured, Neeraj, is undergoing treatment. Police said they have launched a manhunt against the driver who escaped the spot following the accident.
Six of a family, including two children, died in a collision between two cars and a truck, here on Friday.The accident took place early morning when the car drivers could not see a stationary truck on Lucknow-Agra expressway due to heavy fog and collided with it.According to sources, the crash was so severe that the Santro car, which hit the truck first, got damaged completely and three of the family that was returning from Vaishno Devi temple died on the spot.The other three died at a hospital. After suffering some damages over three years ago due to floods, the fourth Tawi bridge, connecting Bhagwati Nagar with Bikram chowk here, is safe, Jammu and Kashmir public works minister Naeem Akhtar said. However, he directed the PWD department to engage a reputed bridge consultant for conducting safety audit and designing protection works after the work on the Tawi barrage is completed. A portion of the approach road and embankment of the bridge on the Tawi was washed away after heavy floods in the river during September 2014. The bridge had remained closed for a month and it was thrown open for traffic only after temporary repair of the damaged portion.
