TSF demands suspension of Telangana Education Minister for 'goof-up' in intermediate results

Telugunadu Students Federation(TSF) president P Sharatchandra on Wednesday demanded suspension of Education Minister Jagadeeshwar Reddy for the goof-up in the intermediate results announced recently."We demand Telangana Rashtriya Samiti (TRS) government to announce compensation for the families of victims who have committed suicide and to suspend the Education Minister. 60.23 per cent students pass Assam matriculation examination

A total of 60.23 per cent of the 3,36,203 students passed the matriculation (class 10) examination the results of which were declared on Wednesday by the Board of Secondary Education, Assam (SEBA). Meghashree Borah of Sankardev Shishu Bidya Niketan in Lakhimpur topped the examination with 594 marks out of 600, which is 99 per cent. Chinmoy Hazarika (Don Bosco High School, Baghchung, Jorhat) and Pratyasha Medhi (St Mary's HS School, Guwahati) came second with 593 marks, while Afreen Ahmed (Christjyoti School, Nagaon) and Anushree Bhuyan (St Mary's HS School, Guwahati) stood third with 591 marks, SEBA said. The pass percentage of boys was 62.65 while that of girls was 57.95 per cent. A total of 1,02,713 boys out of 1,63,945 passed, while the number for girls were 1,05,105 out of 1,81,385 across the state, the results gazette said. "PoJK institutions not recognised," says UGC, cautions students against admissions

The University Grants Commission (UGC) has cautioning students against taking admissions in educational institutions situated in Pakistan occupied Jammu and Kashmir (PoJK), asserting that institutes in the region are neither established nor recognised by the Government of India.In a circular dated May 8th, UGC also arrested that the said territory is an integral part of India and is under illegal occupation of Pakistan.Educational institutions, including universities, medical colleges, technical institutions and other educational institutions situated in PoJK are neither established by Government of India nor recognised by Statutory Authorities such as University Grants Commission (UGC) and All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE), Medical Council of India (MCI), hence students must not take admission in these, the circular said."...Students are cautioned and advised against taking admission in any college/university/technical institution in any territory under illegal ...

St. Stephen's ropes in church for admissions, teachers condemn move as 'unconstitutional'

Pyrotechnic object found at Air Force Station

A suspicious looking object which later turned out to be a pyrotechnic item was found on Tuesday morning at the Air Force Station of Lohegaon by a staff member of the Air Force School, Vimannagar, the Indian Air Force (IAF) said in a press release."This morning a staff member of Air Force School, Vimannagar, located at Air Force Station, Lohegaon, found a suspicious looking object in the school ground, which is adjacent to a civil residential area. On receiving the information, IAF security team reached the Air Force School and the school area was cordoned off," IAF tweeted.The object was safely disposed of by a member of the police bomb disposal squad after identification as a pyrotechnic object."Police Bomb disposal squad identified the suspicious object as a pyrotechnic object. Delhi Police commissioner felicitates students for securing good marks in board exams

Students of Delhi Police Public schools, who scored good marks in their Class 10 and 12 exams, were felicitated on Tuesday, officials said. The students from the schools' campuses in Safdarjung Enclave and New Police Lines were felicitated by Delhi Police Commissioner Amulya Patnaik. "As many as 23 students were awarded merit certificates for being school toppers and for securing cent per cent marks in various subjects," the police department said. Out of these 23 students, 18 students were wards of Delhi Police personnel, police said. Patnaik also commended principals of both the schools as well as school faculty for putting sincere efforts, which resulted in getting excellent results, the officials said.

4 students from AP score perfect 100 in JEE Main exam for architecture courses

Four students from Andhra Pradesh have scored perfect 100 in the Joint Entrance Exam (JEE)-Main for admission to architecture courses, the HRD Ministry's National Testing Agency (NTA) announced on Tuesday. The four students are Gollapudi N Lakshmi Narayana, Korapati Nikhil Ratna, Sykam Ritesh Reddy and Gudla Raghunandan Reddy. For the first time, the JEE-Main examination of Paper-2 (B.Arch/B.Planning) was conducted two times through CBT-Online mode, in this year, the NTA said. The first examination was conducted on January 8 in two shifts, and the second JEE(Main) exam for Paper-2 was conducted on April 7. It said a total of 2.27 lakh candidates had appeared for the examination. For those candidates who appeared in both the January and April examination, better of the two scores have been taken into account, it said. Out of 61,510 candidates appearing in both the months, 27,624 have improved their performance.

DUTA objects to inclusion of supreme council member in interview panel of St Stephen's College

The Delhi University Teachers' Association and students' bodies Tuesday demanded a rollback of the decision of St Stephen's College to include a member of the institution's Supreme Council in the interview panel for selection of students. In a statement, the DUTA also criticised the institution's decision of sending warning letters to three of its governing body members over the issue. The three members of the governing body had objected to the inclusion of a member of its Supreme Council in the interview panel, saying it is a violation of the college constitution. The three members -- Nandita Narain of Department of Mathematics, N P Ashley of Department of English and Abhishek Singh of Department of Economics -- had condemned the "illegal and unacademic decision taken by the Principal", that "could compromise the academic integrity of our admissions process" while demanding its withdrawal. Class 12 student raped by minor in Bihar

A class 12 student was allegedly raped by a minor boy in Bihar's Gaya district on Tuesday, police said. The girl was returning after attending tuition class when the teenager dragged her to a secluded place in Sherghati area and allegedly raped her, the police said. Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Rajiv Mishra said that a case of rape has been lodged at the Sherghati police station against the boy, who is also a student of class 12. The medical examination of the girl, a minor has been conducted, he said. The SSP said police are conducting raids to nab the culprit who is absconding.

Grenade-like object found in Air Force school in Pune

An object resembling a grenade was Tuesday found in the Air Force School in Viman Nagar in Pune, police said, adding that it had been defused and sent to a laboratory for chemical analysis. After police received a call from school authorities at around 10:30am, a team of the Bomb Detection and Disposal Squad arrived at the spot, an official said. "The object looks like a grenade and has some substance, the kind used in firecrackers, inside it. The BDDS team has sent it for laboratory analysis. We are probing what the object is and how it reached the school," he added.

Sikkim varsity prof removed following sexual harassment charge

The Sikkim University Tuesday removed a professor after a student lodged a complaint of sexual harrasment against him by a student of his department, an official said. The accused professor, who is the head of the Mass Communications Department, was barred from visiting the department and also from evaluating answer scripts of its students, SU Registrar Prof T K Kaul said in a notification. "The HOD of the Mass Communications Department has been removed from the post pending an inquiry into the allegation of sexual harassment against him by one of the girl students of his department," Kaul said. The victim had submitted a written complaint on Sunday and the decision was made on the basis of the recommendations of the internal complaints committee of the university, the registrar said. Delhi govt asks schools to sensitise students about thalassemia, invite health experts

The Delhi government Tuesday directed all schools in the national capital to sensitise students and staff members about thalassemia and invite health experts to talk about it. Thalassaemia is a major genetic disorder and is passed from parents to children. Every year around 10,000 to 12,000 children are born with thalassaemia major in India. There are around three lakh thalassaemia affected people in India currently. Referring to a study, the Delhi government said one out of every 18 births is a thalassaemia carrier in Delhi. In Delhi around 200 births of thalassaemia major take place every year, it said. Odisha Matriculation exam results in third week of May

The Board of Secondary Education (BSE) Tuesday announced that this year's Matriculation (Class 10) examination results would be published in the third week of this month. The BSE conducts the matriculation examination for Odia medium schools in the state. BSE president Jahan Ara Begum announced that the results will be published on any day between May 15 and 21. The BSE had earlier planned to publish the matriculation examination results on May 6. Nearly six lakh students have written this year's annual High School Certificate examinations that were held in about 3000 examination centers in the state from February 22 to March 8. The evaluation of answer sheets had ended in April. BSE sources said the last minute touches were given to the result booklets when the state was battered by a devastating cyclone on May 3.
