Defence Minister Nirmala Sitharaman Tuesday alleged there are forces in the Jawaharlal Nehru University which are "waging a war" against India and they are even seen with elected representatives of the institution's students union. The comments come days after candidates backed by Left groups won all four key posts in the JNU Students Union elections. Clashes broke out between members of the RSS-backed Akhil Bhartiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) and the Left-affiliated All India Students Association (AISA). The Presidency University authorities Tuesday announced that its students can collect their degree certificates from departments between Wednesday and September 28. The school management committees (SMCs) in the national capital will now be known as Vidyalaya Kalyan Samitis with the Delhi Cabinet approving the renaming on Tuesday. The cabinet also decided that the funds will not be allocated as per the school building's size but on the basis of enrolment of students. "The fund requirement for this revamped scheme will be met from the budget head SMC Fund and an amount of Rs 56 crore has been proposed for the current financial year," an official statement said. The cabinet also approved the Directorate of Education (DoE)'s proposal for revision in remuneration of miscellaneous category of guest teachers. The department had proposed that the daily remuneration for miscellaneous category guest teachers may be brought at par with trained graduate teachers (with CTET qualification) and enhanced from Rs 1,050 to Rs 1,403 per day.

Justice V Bharathidasan passed the interim order on a petition by the school seeking to quash the June 13 last preliminary notice issued by the land acquisition officer proposing to acquire 3,590 sq m land of the institution for constructing a corridor for a Metro station. The judge directed the Land Acquisition Officer to give a personal hearing to the petitioner on October 1, consider the objections and pass orders on it before issuing a notification under section 3 (1) of the Tamil Nadu Acquisition of Land for Industrial Purposes Act, the judge added. The Delhi Cabinet on Tuesday approved the installation of CCTV cameras in government schools in the city to ensure safety of students. The Delhi government had last year mandated installation of CCTV cameras in all schools covering classrooms, labs, corridors, parking, library, vacant rooms, the areas outside washrooms, corners and other inaccessible areas. "The cabinet accorded its administrative approval and the expenditure sanction for the installation of CCTV cameras in government schools under the Directorate of Education (DoE). "The department's proposal was to seek administrative approval and expenditure sanction for the project of supply, installation, testing, commissioning and comprehensive annual maintainance contract of CCTV cameras in government schools," an official statement said. A Class 10 girl was allegedly gang-raped by fellow students at a boarding school in Sahaspur in Dehradun district and the matter was kept under wraps by the school authorities for over two weeks, according to the police. Nine people -- four students accused of perpetrating the crime and five members of the school staff including its director, principal and administrative officer -- have been arrested, Additional Director General of Police (Law and Order) Ashok Kumar said. Priyank Kanungo, member of the National Commission for Protection of Child Rights, said such elections would benefit children the most. The commission have undertaken a desk review regarding implementation of section 27 of the Right to Education Act and involvement of teachers in non-academic activities. Scores of students of Delhi University's Delhi School Of Journalism protested here on Monday against the administration "for not providing adequate lab facilities" in the department. Around 100 students gathered at the department and did not attend classes. They staged a protest at the main gate of the Delhi School Of Journalism (DSJ). Following the protest, police detained a student from the site, who was later released in the evening. "We are demanding media lab facilities, photography and camera instruments, better faculty members and removal of present Officer on Special Duty (OSD) of the department," said Prashant Yadav, a DSJ student.
