CBSE paper leak: Students stage protests in Delhi

The national capital witnessed multiple protests on Saturday in connection with the CBSE and Staff Selection Commission (SSC) board paper leaks.Students studying in the school affiliated to the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) protested in front of its office in Preet Vihar.They demanded immediate action against the guilty, who leaked Class 12 Economics and Class 10 Mathematics papers.Similarly, SSC and National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET) aspirants also protested at Parliament Street at 1 in the afternoon, demanding court-monitored CBI enquiry into the alleged leak of SSC board exam paper of History and Political Science (Part 1) earlier this month.The students later reached Rajiv Chowk, taking the protest further.The youth protesting against the SSC paper leak were later joined by parents of students who appeared for CBSE board examinations this year.Delhi police are already conducting a probe into the case.The papers of Class XII Economics held on March 26, and .

Private schools should follow summer vacation rule

The private schools in Tamil Nadu should strictly follow the rules with regard to summer vacation and not take special classes to the students, Education Minister K A Sengottaiayn said today. The government has already directed all the schools in private sector to follow the summer vacation rules and not to take special classes during the period, Sengottaiyan told reporters here. Stating that the government has taken necessary steps to prepare the students to appear for entrance examinations, he said about 4,000 selected students, based on their marks in SSLC, will be given special training for the exams.

CBSE leaks: 2 coaching centre directors arrested, 4 students detained

Six more people, including two directors of a private coaching centre here, were today apprehended in connection with the CBSE question paper leaks, police said. Since yesterday, 12 people, including Class 10 and 11 students, have been apprehended in the CBSE leak case from Jharkhand's Chatra district, they said. The examination board came under criticism after its Class 10 mathematics and Class 12 economics papers were leaked earlier this week. The police had yesterday detained six Class 10 students in the case. The police said that among those apprehended today, four are students of different schools in the district and two directors of a private coaching centre here. A Class 11 student was detained from the Navodaya Vidyalala campus here. He had hid chits containing answers of a leaked question paper in the school's bathroom, police said. Two students are from Patna, they said. The police said that the directors have been put under arrest.

CBSE papers leak: Google sends reply to Delhi Police

The Delhi Police's Crime Branch has got a reply from Google on the details it had sought pertaining to the e-mail address from where the CBSE chairperson was sent a mail about the Class 10 mathematics paper being leaked, an official privy to the probe said. A senior police officer said they had got a reply from the online search engine but refused to divulge further details. Meanwhile, the police continued with their quest to trace the origin of the papers leak as they visited the schools and coaching centres in outer Delhi that had come under their scanner. More than 60 people have been questioned till now, but the officer said there was "no breakthrough" in the case so far. Bihar topper scam 2016: ED attaches kingpin's properties worth Rs 4.53 crores

Enforcement Directorate (ED) on Saturday attached properties worth Rs 4.53 crore of Baccha Rai, the main accused in 2016 Bihar Topper Scam.The action has been taken under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA), after a money laundering case was registered against the kingpin.Rai, who is the Secretary-cum Principal of Vishun Roy College in Vaishali district of Bihar, is accused of manipulating the results of students for money, through his contacts in Bihar School Education Board (BSEB).The scam came to light on May 31, 2016, when BSEB Arts and Humanities topper Ruby Rai, Science topper Saurabh Shrestha and third topper in Science stream Rahul Kumar were interviewed by television channels and they were unable to answer to basic questions.Soon, an investigation began in the matter, following which the ED registered a case last year on the basis of Bihar Police FIR and the investigation of the Special Investigation Team (SIT).

Malala makes emotional visit to Swat Valley home in Pak

Malala Yousafzai, the youngest Nobel Peace Prize winner, today was in tears as she returned home in Pakistan's Swat Valley where she survived a near-fatal attack by Taliban in 2012 for advocating girls' education. Malala, 20, reached her ancestral home in Makan Bagh in Mingora on a day-long trip along with her parents and two siblings, amid tight security, sources said. Pakistan's State Minister for Information Marriiyum Aurangzeb also accompanied the education activist for the visit, during which she met her childhood friends and teachers after more than five years. Students protest outside CBSE office in Delhi

A group of students today staged a demonstration near the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) office at Preet Vihar here against the leak of Class 10 Mathematics and Class 12 Economics papers. "The students tried to block the road in front of the CBSE office, but we kept them away. A group of about 25-30 students are protesting outside the CBSE office," said a senior Delhi Police officer. The board has announced a re-examination of the Class 12 Economics paper on April 25, while the re-test for the Class 10 Mathematics paper is likely to be conducted in July. Education Secretary Anil Swarup said yesterday that a preliminary enquiry had revealed that the leak for the Class 10 Mathematics paper was restricted to Delhi and Haryana. Two cases have been registered in the paper leak incident so far. The Crime Branch of Delhi Police has questioned nearly 60 people, including students and tutors, in this connection.

Arunachal: Lohit Brigade helps youth with education, job

Malala visits Pak hometown in Swat Valley

Malala Yousafzai, the youngest Nobel Peace Prize winner, today arrived in her Swat Valley hometown in Pakistan for the first time after she was shot in the head by Taliban militants for advocating girls education more than five years ago. J'khand govt to develop six backward districts

Jharkhand Chief Minister Raghubar Das has said that the governments priority is to develop six backward districts of the state. "Khunti, Simdega, Gumla, West Singhbhum, Pakur and Sahibganj are the most backward districts. The governments priority is to develop them," Das told a meeting of officials here yesterday, an official release said. Das asked deputy commissioners of these districts to focus on the most backward block and panchayat of these districts. Over 14L Class X students will not give retest: Javadekar

Union HRD Minister Prakash Javadekar said the announcements made by his ministry today should clear all confusion regarding the re-test of the CBSE Class 10 maths and Class 12 Economics papers. Paper leaks: CBSE shares exam centres, bank custodians' details with police

The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) on Friday shared information regarding the conduction of board papers to the police, which is probing the leaking of Class 12 Economic and Class 10 Mathematics papers.The education board, in a letter to the police, gave details about the examination centres, names of staff and superintendents at the centers, bank custodians as well as the names and contact details of bank managers who had custody of the leaked papers in Delhi and Haryana.There were as many as six complaints regarding the paper leak, and the information regarding the same have been furnished to the Special Investigation Team (SIT), the CBSE stated in the letter to the police.In the latest development in the matter, the Human Resource Development (HRD) Ministry has announced that the re-examination for the Economics paper for Class 12 Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) students will be held on April 25, while Class 10th Mathematics paper will happen only in Delhi .
