Andhra govt pushes for timely completion of Rs 12K cr power grid projects

Andhra Pradesh Chief Secretary K Vijayanand on Thursday directed officials to speed up transmission projects worth over Rs 12,000 crore aimed at strengthening the power grid and ensuring uninterrupted electricity supply across the state. As part of its ongoing efforts to strengthen the transmission network and ensure reliable electricity supply, the Transmission Corporation of Andhra Pradesh (APTRANSCO) is executing projects that include seven commissioned works worth over Rs 155 crore and 62 ongoing project works valued at nearly Rs 8,000 crore. Similarly, five newly awarded projects worth nearly Rs 363 crore, and 31 upcoming works estimated at around Rs 3,500 crore are being executed. Strike against discom privatisation in UP may affect power supply: AIPEF

Electricity supply in the country may get affected on July 9 as over 27 lakh power workers will go on a nationwide strike against the government's decision to privatise two distribution companies (discoms) in Uttar Pradesh. The Uttar Pradesh government has decided to privatise Purvanchal Vidyut Vitran Nigam Ltd (PVVNL) and Dakshinanchal Vidyut Vitran Nigam Ltd (DVVNL), which alone cover 42 of 75 districts of the state, Shailendra Dubey, Chairman of All India Power Engineers' Federation (AIPEF), said. Dubey alleged that Uttar Pradesh Power Corporation Ltd and some big officials of the government are in collusion with selected private houses. New Delhi, 22 SeptemberUttar Pradesh power minister Shrikant Sharma said on Friday that the state would welcome any power suppliers who would supply power at low rates. The state is currently facing acute power shortage. Yogi Adityanath-led government has cancelled power purchase agreements of 3200 MW that were signed during the tenure of the previous government. Sharma said these projects were only on paper. Currently, the state is meeting its power demand from the Indian Energy Exchange."We would welcome any who would supply us electricity at low rates," Sharma said. The state generates 40 per cent of its electricity needs, and the shortfall of 60 per cent is being purchased from the exchange, he said.The minister said the state has 11,000 MW of generation capacity, and is currently generating 8,500 MW.
