Students vandalise NSU in Manipur

A secton of students has vandalised the administrative head office of the newly opened National Sports University (NSU) here, police said today. The students smashed furniture, broke computers, tables and chairs of the varsity located at Manipur Olympic House yesterday, K Meghachandra Singh, SP, Imphal East district said. Nobody could be arrested so far as the culprits are absconding, he said and alleged that some members of the Democratic Students' Alliance of Manipur (DESAM) were involved in the vandalism. DESAM president Salam Akash had said yesterday that his organisation had launched an agitation demanding opening of all the departments of NSU including sports journalism, sports management and performance and analysis courses in the university. DESAM leaders are not available to make any comment on the allegation.

Stephanie Meyer to exit from 'The Rook'

"Twilight" creator Stephanie Meyer is said to be leaving drama series "The Rook". The author, who is attached as executive producer to the supernatural spy series on Starz, is exiting from the project due to creative differences, according to The Hollywood Reporter. Also, Stephen Garrett, who was originally set to serve as showrunner, has been replaced by Lisa Zwerling and Karyn Usher. Garrett, however, will continue to serve as an executive producer on "The Rook". The series, based on Daniel O'Malley's novel of the same name, is currently shooting its first two episodes in London. The show is slated to air next year.

Benedict Cumberbatch saves cyclist from being mugged

"Avengers: Infinity War" star Benedict Cumberbatch channelled his inner superhero after he saved a cyclist on takeaway duty from a gang of muggers. The "Sherlock" actor jumped out of an Uber taxi to fight off four miscreants who allegedly smashed the cyclist over the head with a bottle, The Telegraph reported. The incident took place near his fictional character's home in London's Baker Street. According to witnesses, Cumberbatch's timely intervention foiled the mugging. The 41-year-old actor dragged the perpetrators off the victim, who was in his 20s, after screaming at them to leave him alone. One of the men had tried to steal the cyclist's bike, but nothing was stolen. Uber driver Manuel Dias said the cyclist was lucky and described Cumberbatch as a "superhero". Dias, 53, said the actor and his wife, Sophie Hunter, were riding in his taxi but he only recognised him when he got out of the car. Brian De Palma writing horror film on Harvey Weinstein scandal

Horror movie icon Brian De Palma has said that he is currently writing the script for a film based on the Harvey Weinstein sexual abuse and harassment scandal. The 77-year-old director, who became a force to reckon with after "Carrie" released in 1976, is set to return to the genre after a hiatus of over 40 years. "I'm writing a film about this scandal, a project I'm talking about with a French producer," De Palma told French publication Le Parisien. He added, "My character won't be named Harvey Weinstein but it will be a horror film, with a sexual aggressor, and it will take place in the film industry. IPL betting case: Arbaaz appears before cops to give statement

Bollywood actor and film- maker Arbaaz Khan arrived here today for recording his statement before the police in connection with an alleged IPL betting racket, an official said. The city police yesterday issued summons to the 50- year-old actor-producer for recording his statement today in connection with the betting racket. In a letter sent to Arbaaz, the police asked him to join the probe in the wake of arrest of an alleged bookie who was placing bets on the recently-concluded Indian Premier League (IPL), a police official had said. Arbaaz has reached the office of the Thane Police's Anti-Extortion Cell (AEC) for recording his statement, said DCP (Crime) Abhishek Trimukhe. Willem Dafoe joins 'The Last Thing He Wanted'

Willem Dafoe has been roped in to star in crime drama "The Last Thing He Wanted". The 62-year-old actor will play father to Anne Hathaway's hardscrabble journalist Elena McMahon, who gets embroiled in the dangerous world of arms dealing, Variety reported. The film is the big-screen adaptation of Joan Didion's 1996 political thriller, which will be directed by "Mudbound" helmer Dee Rees. Marco Villalobos will co-write the script with Rees. Patty Jenkins, DC's Geoff Johns tease 'Wonder Woman 2' setting

"Wonder Woman" director Patty Jenkins and DC Entertainment president Geoff Johns have unveiled that the upcoming sequel in the franchise will be set in the year 1984. Johns, DC chief creative officer, shared a picture on Facebook which read "WW84," suggesting the setting of the Gal Gadot-led movie. The first "Wonder Woman" film was set in 1917 during World War I. Jenkins also changed the background of her Twitter account to feature the logo. The director-actor duo is returning for the sequel set against the backdrop of the Cold War. "Wonder Woman 2" will see Kristen Wiig play villain Cheetah. "Narcos" star Pedro Pascal is among the new entrants to the franchise. Jenkins, Johns and Dave Callaham have co-written the script. Charles Melton joins 'The Sun is also a Star'

"Riverdale" star Charles Melton is on board the cast of "The Sun is also a Star". The 27-year-old actor will star opposite Yara Shahidi in the YA adaptation of the New York Times bestseller penned by Nicola Yoon, according to The Hollywood Reporter. The film, to be directed by Ry Russo-Young, revolves around Natasha (Shahidi), a girl in New York City whose pragmatism is challenged when she falls in love right before her family is set to be deported back to Jamaica. Melton, who is Korean-American, will play Daniel Bae, the teenage son of Korean immigrants who meets Natasha by fate. The project is being backed by MGM and Warner Bros feature, who have acquired the rights to Yoon's book. Alloy Entertainment's Les Morgenstein and Elysa Koplovitz Dutton will produce. Tracy Oliver will executive produce. The film is set to release on May 17 next year.

Charlie Sheen calls for 'Two and a Half Men' reboot following 'Roseanne' cancellation

Charlie Sheen has called for a revival of his hit comedy series "Two and a Half Men" after the much-publicised cancellation of "Roseanne" earlier this week. The 52-year-old star played the casanova jingle writer Charlie Harper on the CBS show until its seventh season in 2011. Sheen took to Twitter to share the photograph 2003 script from the show with his character's name written on it, the same day "Roseanne" was killed off by ABC Entertainment president Channing Dungey. "Adios 'Roseanne'! Good riddance. Hashtag NOT winning. The runway is now clear for OUR reboot. #CharlieHarperReturns," the actor captioned the picture. His former "Two and a Half Men" co-star Jon Cryer retweeted his post with the caption, "What could possibly go wrong?" JK Rowling starts work on 'Fantastic Beasts 3' film

"Harry Potter" creator JK Rowling has revealed that she is currently writing the screenplay for the third film in the "Fantastic Beasts and Where To Find Them" series. The 52-year-old author took to her official blog to share the news. "I've just finished the fourth Galbraith novel, 'Lethal White', and I'm now writing the screenplay for 'Fantastic Beasts 3'," Rowling wrote. The third installment is yet to be titled. The second part, "Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald", will release on November 16 this year. Rowling further teased her writing plans, saying she will pen another children's book - which will be a departure from the Harry Potter universe.
