Congress leader Shashi Tharoor today said not much is known about princely states and what happened there during the British rule partly because they were not seen central to the national movement. Speaking at the launch of a book, 'A Political Biography of Maharaja Rupudaman Singh of Nabha', the Lok Sabha MP said, "We tend to think in simplistic terms about ways in which our national movement evolved, with Gandhi, Nehru, 'divide and rule' policy, rise of Muslim League. That narrative is familiar. However, we do not know enough about princely states and what's going there, partly because they are not seen central to the national movement." Police opposes Dileep's plea for copy of visual evidence in actress attack case
Police today opposed in the Kerala High Court the plea of Malayalam actor Dileep, an accused in an actress assault case, that a copy of visual evidence of the alleged sexual attack on her by a gang be handed over to him. Opposing the plea, police argued that there was a likelihood of the visuals of the criminal act being misused if they were given to him. The prosecution alleged that copy of the application by Dileep seeking visuals was leaked to media prior to filing it before the court and the same thing will happen if visuals are given to the actor. If the copy of visuals were given to him, the victim will have to face the trauma in her entire life, police contended. Justice Sunil Thomas posted the case for Wednesday for further hearing. '1946 Calcutta Killings' to release on April 14
Director Milan Bhowmik's "1946 Calcutta Killings" will be released on April 14 after Central Board of Film Certification issued a U/A certificate to the movie. The film, in Hindi and Bengali, will be released in 350 theatres across the country. "The CBFC's Film Certificate Appellate Tribunal (FCAT) has asked me to cut one comment about Jawaharlal Nehru uttered by the character of Muhammad Ali Jinnah that him in poor light and I agreed," Bhowmik told PTI. The movie is set during the months leading up to the riots that broke out in the city from August 16, 1946 which claimed thousands of lives. Bhowmik said he had appealed to the FCAT in early 2017 after the CBFC's Kolkata and Mumbai offices refused to grant certificate to the film on the ground that it had derogatory comments about certain political figures of the time and might cause communal disharmony. Joe Wright to helm 'The Woman in the Window'
Filmmaker Joe Wright is directing "The Woman in the Window", based on A J Finn's best-seller book. Tracy Letts, the Pulitzer Prize winning writer of "August, Osage County," will pen the script, and Scott Rudin and Eli Bush (Lady Bird) will produce the picture. Fox 2000 is backing the project, reported Variety. "The Woman in the Window" revolves around the reclusive Dr Anna Fox, who spends her days holed in in her New York City brownstone, fortifying herself with too much wine, binge watching old movies, and spying on her neighbours. In the 'Rear Window' vein, Anna eventually witnesses something she should not while keeping tabs on the Russell family, the seemingly picture perfect clan that lives across the way. Wright has been in demand following the box office and awards season success of "Darkest Hour.
Not approached for 'Bharat', 'Shotgun Shaadi': Shraddha Kapoor
Shraddha Kapoor's name is being associated with "Bharat" and "Shotgun Shaadi" but the actor says she has not been approached for the projects.
