Film with SP Mukherjee in lead role to be released in April

The film '1946 Calcutta Killings' in which Shyama Prasad Mukherjee's character is cast in the lead role, will be released next month after the Central Board of Film Certification issued a U/A certificate, the director said. The film, in Hindi and Bengali, will be released in 350 theatres across the country on April 14, the day before the Bengali new year, its director Milan Bhowmik told PTI. "The CBFC's Film Certificate Appellate Tribunal (FCAT) has asked me to cut one comment about Jawaharlal Nehru uttered by the character of Muhammad Ali Jinnah on the ground that it showed the future Prime Minister of the country in poor light and I agreed," Bhowmik said. The makers of the film also put a disclaimer stating that the film was aimed at educating the youth about dangers of communal violence as asked by the CBFC Tribunal, he said. Renowned sculptor held for 'irregularities' in making temple

Renowned sculptor Muthiah Sthapathi and another person were arrested in connection with the alleged irregularities in making an idol for the famous Sri Dhandayuthapaniswami temple here in 2004, police said today. Muthaiah, a Padmashri awardee and a former temple executive officer, KK Raja were allegedly involved in irregularities pertaining to use of gold for making the idol meant to replace the presiding deity, they said. A decision was taken to replace the presiding 'Nava Bhashana' idol in 2003, which was a conspiracy, the Idol Wing police claimed. Several devotees had donated gold and other metals for making the idol, which was examined by a team of metallurgists from IIT-Madras recently. During inspection, the team found the new idol made without the specified quantities including the gold. While Muthiah was arrested in Chennai, the retired EO was held in Coimbatore last night.

Margot to exec produce show on Shakespeare's work with female perspective

Margot Robbie is all set to executive produce a modern take on tales by William Shakespeare which will be told from a female perspective. The 27-year-old actor's production banner, LuckyChap Entertainment, is partnering with ABC Studios International to create a series with 10 stand-alone episodes. Each chapter will narrate classic tales by the Bard from a female point of view, Entertainment Tonight reported. Giula Sandler is series creator and a creative team made up entirely of women would be at the helm of the show. "This production is a chance to create something classic yet boldly original and modern. The works of Shakespeare are iconic and this will present them in a way they've never been seen before," Keli Lee, MD of ABC Studios International, said in a statement. Ed Westwick removes sexual assault denials from social media

Actor Ed Westwick has deleted posts denying allegations of sexual assault from his Twitter account. The former "Gossip Girl" star had previously taken to his social media page to maintain he had done nothing wrong late last year after Kristen Cohen claimed he had raped her and Aurelie Wynn and Rachel Eck both accused him of sexual misconduct. "It has come to the attention of investigators that Mr Westwick has removed denials about alleged rapes of the victims in this investigation from his social media accounts that he had posted last November," a law enforcement source told Us Weekly.
