'Aiyaary' gets censor certificate, to release on Feb 16

After a prolonged delay, Neeraj Pandey directed "Aiyaary" finally received a Censor Board certificate today, clearing the decks for the film's release on February 16. The approval comes after getting required clearance from the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) and the Ministry of Defence. Post review of the film by the CBFC, a special screening was held for the Ministry of Defence on last Saturday evening as instructed by the CBFC. The screening resulted in prescribed modifications to the film, providing which "Aiyaary" finally received its censor certification, an official statement said. Pandey took to Twitter and posted a picture of the censor certificate. "Finally... this just arrived. All cleared for #AiyaaryOnFeb16 now! Thank you #CBFCIndia. Thank you MOD. Defamation cases filed against makers of 'Newton'

A criminal complaint and a civil defamation suit has been filed against the makers of critically-acclaimed Bollywood movie 'Newton' in a court here for allegedly portraying the Central Reserve Police Force in poor light. 'Newton', starring Raj Kumar Rao in lead role, deals with the story of a government clerk who was sent for poll duty in Naxal-hit area of Chhattisgarh. It was India's official entry for the Oscars' Best Foreign Language Film category last year. The defamation suit and the complaint have been filed before Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Amit Arora seeking direction to Manish Mundra, producer of the movie, and Shiladitya Bora, the CEO of production company Drishyam Films, to tender unconditional public apology and compensate the complainant, a soldier, and the CRPF. 70 authors to take part in Kolkata Literature Festival

Around 70 writers from various countries will be deliberating on contemporary issues and challenges faced by literature in the 5th Kolkata Literature Festival to be held from February 8 to 10, organisers said. HC refuses to stay screening of film on writer Madhavikutty

The Kerala High Court today refused to stay the exhibition ofKamal-directed Malayalam film "Aami", which is based on the life of noted writer Madhavikutty. Justice ShajiP Chaly, however, admitted a petition filed by lawyer K P Ramachandran of Kochi, challenging the screening of the movie. While declining to stay the screening of the movie, the court directed the Censor Board and the Union Information and Broadcasting Ministry to file counter affidavits in two weeks. The petitioner alleged that the film, based on the life of Madhavikutty, was sending a message favouring "love jihad". "Love jihad" is a term used by sections of Hindu activists to describe marriages between Hindu women and Muslim men, who, they claim, seek to propagate Islam. Madhavikutty had converted to Islam and taken the name of Kamala Surayya. "Padmaavat" may release in Madhya Pradesh this week

Controversial film "Padmaavat", which was not released in Madhya Pradesh last month due to security reasons, is likely to hit the screens in the state this week. Film distributors and theatre owners have agreed to screen the film after the state government assured to provide adequate security cover. "We had sought security cover from the state government for cinema halls and audiences for the screening of Padmaavat. The officials concerned assured us to provide security cover during the film's screening. "Accordingly, Padmaavat might be screened on February 8 in Indore and elsewhere in the state," Central Circuit Cine Association president Jaiprakash Chouksey said. Radio is the second most accessed medium across metros and non-metros with listeners tuning in five days a week. Further, any advertisement on it is seen to be most effective in the 26-45 years age group, according to a report. "After print, radio has the second-highest ad-attention, followed by TV and streaming services. In terms of ad-effectiveness, radio ads are the second most effective in driving purchase intent, with TV being the most effective medium," according to the report Power of Radio commissioned by Music Broadcast that operates Radio City FM channel.
