Leonardo DiCaprio to star in Quentin Tarantino's Manson movie

Leonardo DiCaprio is all set to work again with director Quentin Tarantino in his upcoming Charles Manson-themed movie.The Oscar-winning star will play an aging actor in what's been described as a Pulp Fiction-esque film, Deadline reported.Sony Pictures won the rights to the film, which already has a release date set for August 9, 2019.The film may not have a title yet, but its release date is significant as it falls on the 50th anniversary of the murder of Sharon Tate by the Mason family.According to reports, Tarantino asked DiCaprio's 'Wolf of Wall Street' co-star, Margot Robbie, to star as Tate.It has been revealed that Tom Cruise and Brad Pitt are also in talks for what the publication describes as "two meaty male roles".It's being produced by Harry Potter's David Heyman as well as Tarantino himself, Shannon McIntosh and Georgia Kacandes.The film will mark DiCaprio's first since his Oscar-winning role in 'The Revenant'.

Rajasthan HC to watch Padmavat before quashing FIR against Bhansali

The Rajasthan High Court on Friday said it would like to watch director Sanjay Leela Bhansali's controversial film 'Padmavat' before taking a decision to allow its release in the state.The court was hearing a petition filed by the director of the film, who sought quashing of an FIR lodged against him at Didwana in Merta in March last year.The court posted the matter to January 23 for hearing.Earlier in the day, Gujarat Chief Minister Vijay Rupani said that despite the clearance from Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC), 'Padmaavat' will not be released in the state.Gujarat is the second Indian state after Rajasthan to have banned the screening of the controversial Sanjay Leela Bhansali directorial.Other states, including Madhya Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh and Haryana, which had indicated that the film will not be allowed to be released in November -- are yet to announce their final decisions.The flick, based on the legend of Rani Padmini, a 13th century Hindu Rajput queen, mentioned .

Asked to remove scene featuring cow in new movie: Salim Kumar

National award-winning actor Salim Kumar today said he had to remove a scene featuring a cow from his newly-released Malayalam movie, following a censor board suggestion. Kumar told Malayalam news portals here that he removed a "natural scene" featuring cow from the movie titled "Daivame Kaithozham K Kumarakanam", after the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) asked him to cut it. Directed and written by Salim Kumar himself, the movie was released today. It also features actor Jayaram, Anusree and Sreenivasan. Kumar said that he did not initiate a legal action as the removal of that particular scene did not affect the movie. A legal action would have delayed the release of the movie, he said. Kumar had won the National Award in the Best Actor category for his performance in Adaminte Makan Abu in 2010.

Int'l Film Festival on Art and Artist begins in Odisha

Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik today called upon filmmakers to come forward to work on documentaries and biopics on the literary souls. Inaugurating the 12th International Film Festival on Art and Artist here, the chief minister also said that the journey of Odia films started in 1936 with the production of Sita Bibaha, Patnaik said the event coincided with the creation of Odisha as a separate state and a synergy between language, literature and filmdom. The three-day festival, organised by the city-based Jatin Das Centre of Art (JDCA), will continue till January 14. "Imaging the art and artists is one of the significant endeavours to preserve, document, evaluate, renew and improve these art forms in order to save them for the prosperity as a source of inspiration. Sindhu donates Rs 25 lakh KBC prize money to cancer hospital

Star shuttler P V Sindhu today donated Rs 25 lakh prize money she won in a popular TV show for the cause of fighting against cancer. "Padma Shri P V Sindhu, Olympic silver medalist, Rajiv Gandhi Khel Ratna and Arjuna awardee has donated Rs 25 lakh prize money won in popular quiz program 'Kaun Banega Crorepati' hosted by Amitabh Bachchan," a release said. Raj HC refuses to pass order on 'Padmavat' before watching it

The Rajasthan High Court today said it would like to watch controversial film "Padmavat" before taking a decision to allow its release in the state. Hearing a petition filed by the director of the film, Sanjay Leela Bhansali, seeking the quashing of an FIR lodged against him at Didwana in Merta in March last year, the court posted the matter to January 23. The petitioner's counsel, Nishant Bora, said since the name of the film was changed to "Padmavat" from "Padmavati", the FIR had become pointless and the film should be allowed to release in the state. The cooperative sugar mills in Haryana have crushed 149.40 lakh quintal of sugarcane and produced over 13.72 lakh quintals of sugar so far during the ongoing crushing season.
