'Padmavat' to release on January 25: industry sources

After facing several roadblocks, Sanjay Leela Bhansali's controversial film "Padmavati", retitled "Padmavat", seems set for a January 25 release, sources in Viacom18 Motion Pictures said today. The film, mired in controversy over its plot line, has been cleared by the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC), which has asked the makers to change the title and suggested other modifications. The film was earlier scheduled to be released on December 1. Though Viacom 18 Motion Pictures and Sanjay Leela Bhansali have not released an official statement yet, sources in the production house said the film will release on January 25, a day before Republic Day. "The film is releasing on January 25. There is no clarity when the official statement will be out regarding this," sources in Viacom18 Motion Pictures told PTI. Ansari first man of Asian descent to win Globe for Best Actor

Indian-origin star Aziz Ansari became the first man of Asian descent to bag the trophy in the Best Performance by an Actor in a Television Series Musical/Comedy category for his role in "The Master Of None". It is also the first ever Golden Globe win for the 34- year-old actor. "I genuinely didn't think I would win as all the websites said I was gonna lose. Also, I am glad that we won this one. According to a release, the movie will be screened at an annual festival of Indian films in Yerevan, Armenia. The Embassy of India in Armenia organises an annual festival of Indian films. During the event, the most popular and award-winning movies of that year are screened in Armenia's popular cinema hall, Moscow Cinema. Aadhaar data breach: Committed to freedom of Press, says govt

Amid criticism of action by authorities over a newspaper report on Aadhaar data breach, Law and IT Minister Ravi Shankar Prasad said today that the government is committed to the freedom of the Press and the FIR has been filed against "unknown" entities. "Government is fully committed to freedom of Press as well as to maintaining security and sanctity of Aadhaar for India's development. Withdrawal of FIR against Tribune journalist demanded

A newspaper employees' union today demanded the withdrawal of an FIR against a journalist over her report on alleged breach of details of more than one billion Aadhaar cards, terming it an attack on the free press. The Confederation of Newspaper and News Agency Employees' Organisations, in a statement, condemned the Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI), saying it should highlight errors in the report, if any, instead of taking penal action. "The action amounts to an attack on the freedom of the press and also denial of access to the press from reporting any news unpalatable to those in authority," it said. The Delhi Police has registered an FIR on a UIDAI official's complaint over the report in the Tribune newspaper. '21 Months Of Hell' row: Kerala CBFC official sent back to previous department

Dr A Pratibha, regional officer at the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) in Kerala, has been asked to go back to her previous department by the board.The move comes days after '21 Months Of Hell', a 78-minute documentary based on the Emergency in India by Malayalam filmmaker Yadu Vijayakrishnan, was denied a certificate by CBFC.Film director Yadu Vijayakrishnan had, earlier, said his documentary was out rightly rejected by the regional CBFC team without even suggesting any modifications, which could help get the film passed.Yadu had also accused the Kerala CBFC team of being populated by Leftists and Congress supporters, because of which his documentary is being unofficially banned.The documentary movie explores the torture methods used by the police after Emergency was declared in 1975.
