Tom Hanks in talks to play Elvis Presley's manager in Baz Luhrmann's next
Veteran actor Tom Hanks is in negotiations to play Elvis Presley's iconic manager Colonel Tom Parker in Baz Luhrmann's untitled biopic on the legendary musician. The Warner Bros project is also penned by Luhrmann along with Craig Pearce. According to Variety, the director wants to cast a newcomer for the role of Presley. Parker discovered Presley when he was just an unknown and quickly moved in as his lone representation. Parker was responsible for various milestones, including Presley's record deal with RCA and his successful acting career. Luhrmann is planning to get the film into production sometime this year.
Janhvi Kapoor to star opposite Rajkummar Rao in 'Rooh-Afza'
Actor Janhvi Kapoor has been roped in to feature in Rajkummar Rao and Varun Sharma starrer horror comedy, "Rooh-Afza". The film will be directed by Hardik Mehta and co-produced by Dinesh Vijan and Mrighdeep Sing Lamba. "For the female lead, we needed someone who could portray two contrasting personalities with ease and Janhvi stood out, she really connected with the script. Her talent is still raw, but she is excited about being moulded. The script is young, refreshing and totally crazy, and she is exactly that," Vijan said in a statement. The film revolves around a singing ghost who puts grooms to sleep so it can possess their brides. Every time there is a wedding in town, local women come together to keep the groom awake through the first night in a bid to avoid the wrath of the ghost. Get ready to witness another fresh pairing on screen! The Bollywood starlet, Janhvi Kapoor, who made her debut with 'Dhadak', has bagged yet another film. Janhvi will be next seen opposite Rajkummar Rao in the upcoming horror comedy 'Rooh-Afza'. Indian film critic and trade analyst Taran Adarsh shared the news on his Twitter handle. Andhra Pradesh HC stays release of RGV's 'Lakshmi's NTR'
Andhra Pradesh High Court has ordered stay on the release of Ram Gopal Verma's film "Lakshmi's NTR" till April 3.The next hearing adjourned till April 3.The order came a day before the film was to hit the screens.The judge has directed the producer to arrange special screening of the movie in his chamber to enable him to take a final view in the presence of lawyers from both sides.P. The Kochi Biennale Foundation Thursday dropped an inquiry in the absence of any 'forthcoming complaint' against co-founder Riyas Komu who was anonymously accused of sexual misconduct in October last year. "Since no complaint was forthcoming after pursuing the matter for several weeks, the ICC recommended the dropping of the inquiry suggested by the Foundation," the board of trustees of KBF said in a statement. "This recommendation has been examined and has been accepted by the board of trustees at its meeting today (Thursday)," the board added. Following the allegations, Komu had stepped down from all management positions for the biennale on October 19. He was accused of allegedly "grabbing and kissing" the survivor. A trustee meeting was then convened where it was decided that Lizzie Jacob, the trustee and former Chief Secretary of Kerala, and Chair of the Internal Complaints Committee, would proactively seek the complaint and authorise an inquiry, the statement said. Modi biopic producers reply to EC notice; BJP yet to respond
The producers of biopic on Prime Minister Narendra Modi have responded to an Election Commission notice but the BJP, which was also sent a copy, is yet to reply, sources in the poll panel said Thursday. The Election Commission had sought comments from the makers of the biopic on the Opposition's demand to postpone its release till the Lok Sabha elections get over. Delhi HC declines to interfere with release of film 'Ram Ki Janmabhoomi' on plea of 'Mughal prince'
The Delhi High Court Thursday declined to interfere with the release of the film 'Ram Ki Janmabhoomi', which is to hit theatres on Friday, saying it has "not found anything objectionable" in it. Justice Vibhu Bakhru however directed the movie's producer to hold private screening of the film for the petitioner, Prince Yakub Habeebuddin Tucy who claims to be a descendant of the last Mughal emperor Bahadur Shah Zafar. The court directed the producer, Waseem Rizvi, to hold private screening in the national capital on Thursday evening for Tucy who has contended that the movie contains personal attacks against him and his family. The petitioner had also contended that film was inflammatory and had the potential to promote communal disharmony.
