Veteran comedian 'Crazy' Mohan dies at 66

Popular Tamil playwright and theatre and film comedian 'Crazy' Mohan died here on Monday following a massive heart attack at the age of 66, his longtime associate, filmmaker SB Kanthan said. According to sources close to the family, Mohan, 66, was rushed to a city hospital here following complaints of unease, but despite efforts he could not be revived. Mohan entered the film industry after a long and successful career as a theatre personality. He penned the scripts for several super hit films, including Kamal Haasan-starrer "Avvai Shanmugi", "Vasool Raja MBBS", and "Michael Madhana Kamarajan", besides acting in many. Sajid Nadiadwala to return as 'Kick 2' director

Sajid Nadiadwala will be directing "Kick" sequel, production house Nadiadwala Grandson Entertainment confirmed on Monday after reports of the filmmaker's exit from the project started doing the rounds on social media. As per reports, director Rohit Shetty was being considered to take over the directing duties from Nadiadwala for the follow-up to the 2014 film, starring Salman Khan and Jacqueline Fernandez. "Clearing the air, we strongly deny any reports of association of any other name as the director of 'Kick 2'. "The next of the franchise, 'Kick 2' is with Nadiadwala Grandson Entertainment and will be directed by Sajid Nadiadwala," the production banner said in statement on Twitter. Multifaceted Girish Karnad felt at home as a playwright

He was an actor par excellence, a Rhodes scholar, and recipient of the Jnanpith award, but what Girish Karnad liked most was being a playwright. The 81-year-old, who died Monday, had made his preference known in an interview he gave a few years ago. "I have been fairly lucky in having a multi-pronged career. You know I have been an actor, a publisher, and a film-maker. But in none of these fields have I felt quite as much at home as in playwriting," Karnad had said. Steven Spielberg penning horror series for Quibi

Veteran filmmmaker Steven Spielberg is writing a horror series for forthcoming digital platform, Quibi. According to Quibi founder Jeffrey Katzenberg, the users will only be able to see the show when their phone knows it is dark outside. In an appearance at the Banff World Media Festival, Katzenberg revealed that his former DreamWorks Animation partner Spielberg is writing a horror series. "Steven Spielberg has a super scary story. Rajasthan CM condoles demise of veteran actor Girish Karnad

Rajasthan Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot on Monday condoled the demise of veteran playwright and actor Girish Karnad. In his condolence message, Gehlot said that Karnad, who was honoured with the Jnanpith award, was multi-faceted and a great supporter of freedom of expression. He raised the problems of the common man through his writing and acting, the chief minister said. 'Bharat' crosses Rs 150 crore mark in 5 days
