Tamil superstar Rajinikanth said Saturday efforts were underway to register a name with the registrar of trademarks for the launch of a television channel floated by his forum, Rajini Makkal Mandram. Ahead of his visit to the United States, where the actor is slated for a brief stay with his family, Rajinikanth told reporters at the airport that the forum would be registering the name for the television channel. "We came to know that somebody is going to start (a television channel) in that name. Ahead of them, we are going to register that (name)," Rajinikanth said to a query on whether there was a plan to launch a television channel on his name. Veteran music director Ilayaraja has been dragged to court by a group of film producers against his claim of copyright ownership for film songs composed by him. In their civil suit filed in the Madras High Court, the producers said it was they who held all the rights of a movie, including those of the songs. The group of six producers including, PT Selvakumar and R Chandrasekhar, submitted that Ilayaraja cannot claim copyright ownership for songs for which he had scored the music in films made by various producers. Bollywood actors and producers lauded Prime Minister Narendra Modi for the reduction of GST rates on movie tickets after the 31st Goods and Services Tax (GST) Council meeting.The reduction was announced by Union Finance Minister Arun Jaitley, drawing praises from the Hindi film fraternity.Jaitley said that the GST rates on movie tickets up to Rs 100 have been brought down to 12 per cent and above Rs 100 have been brought down to 18 per cent from 28 per cent. The government's decision to reduce the GST rate on cinema tickets would make movie viewing more affordable, increase footfall and aid the growth of the industry, the Multiplex Association of India (MAI) said Saturday. The government Saturday brought down the GST rates on cinema tickets costing up to Rs 100 to 12 per cent from the existing 18 per cent, while tickets above 100 would attract 18 per cent GST against 28 per cent earlier. "This move would help in reduction in prices and make the cinema viewing much more affordable," Multiplex Association of India President Deepak Asher told PTI. "Lower ticket prices would attract more people to cinemas, which means more footfalls and our occupancy level would go up." Asher, who is also Director of Inox Leisure, said that it would also improve the viability of the cinema exhibition industry and attract "more investments in the sector". The provincial government in Pakistan's Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa plans to buy 25 pre-partition era buildings, including the ancestral houses of legendry Bollywood actors Raj Kapoor and Dilip Kumar, which have been declared as the national heritage, sources said. Raj Kapoor's ancestral home, known as Kapoor Haveli, is situated in the fabled Qissa Khwani Bazar. It was built before the Partition of British India, between 1918 and 1922, by the legendry actor's grandfather Dewan Basheswarnath Kapoor. Raj Kapoor and his uncle Trilok Kapoor were born in the building. It has been declared national heritage by the provincial government. Veteran actor Dilip Kumar's over 100-year-old ancestral house is also located in Peshawar's Qissa Khawani Bazaar. The house is in shambles and was declared as national heritage under the Federal Antiquities Act in 2014 by the Nawaz Sharif government.
