Cary Elwes joins cast of superhero drama 'The Hyperions'

"The Princess Bride" star Cary Elwes has joined the cast of superhero drama "The Hyperions". Written and directed by Jon McDonald, the indie film revolves around a professor who in 1960 invents a device, the Titan badge, that offers humans superpowers, which creates an unusual family of superheroes who rise to fame and prestige. But over time the family fractures, and fast-forward to 1979 two original superheroes go to extraordinary lengths to get their Titan badges back. According to the Hollywood Reporter, the Hyperions, produced by Justin Bell, is set for an early 2019 shoot in Los Angeles. Elwes is also set to appear in "Stranger Things".

Amazon Prime Channels behind one-third HBO subscriptions

Services such as Amazon Prime Video have been able to soak in more new-age viewers who are not only consuming original content but are also ending up adding to the huge chunk of traditional channel members.According to a note by BMO analyst Daniel Salmon, it is estimated that Amazon Prime Video Channels, which are add-on subscriptions to cable networks including HBO and Starz, may be responsible for big chunks of those channels' total subscribers, Cnet reported.Nearly half of Starz direct-to-consumer subscribers are estimated to come from Amazon, while HBO sources about 35 percent of its subscribers from the internet-delivered TV mode.With this new amalgamation of internet and traditional TV on top, it is estimated that Amazon Channels generated USD 1.7 billion in revenue this year. It is expected to go up to USD 3.6 billion in 2020. Seventy percent of the money generated by Amazon goes back to the programmers.

Santa Barbara festival to honour Michael B Jordan

The Santa Barbara International Film Festival will be honouring Michael B Jordan with its Cinema Vanguard Award for his work in "Black Panther" and "Creed II". The actor will receive the award at the Arlington Theater in Santa Barbara, California, on February 7, reported Variety. The 34th annual Santa Barbara International Film Festival will take place from January 30 to February 9. BET cancels 'Hit the Floor' after four seasons

"Hit the Floor" has been cancelled after four seasons at BET Networks. Season 4 of the the show debuted back in July, reported Variety. "At this time, BET Networks will not be moving forward with a fifth season of 'Hit The Floor'. 'Plastic Man' film in works at Warner Bros, DC

Warner Bros and DC Films are developing a movie on "Plastic Man", based on DC Comics' quirky character who debuted in 1941. According to the Hollywood Reporter, Amanda Idoko has been roped in to write "Plastic Man". Bob Shaye, the co-founder of New Line Cinema, will executive produce. No director is currently attached to the film. Created by Jack Cole for Quality Comics, "Plastic Man" is able to transform himself into any shape. An orphan forced to live on the streets, he turned to a life of crime, was shot during a heist, and was exposed to an unknown chemical liquid that gave his body the properties of rubber, allowing him to stretch, bounce, and mold himself into any shape. A monk attended to him while he was shot, he turned to law and order, and began capturing criminals as Plastic Man wearing a red and yellow rubber costume. Reese Witherspoon to produce 'Where the Crawdads Sing' movie adaptation

Hollywood star Reese Wiherspoon's banner Hello Sunshine is set to produce a feature film adaptation of "Where the Crawdads Sing". Fox 2000 has acquired the best-selling novel written by Delia Owens, reported Variety. The novel is set in a small town in the South and focuses on a young woman named Kya who raises herself in the marshes after she is abandoned by her family. After her former boyfriend is found dead, Kya becomes the prime suspect in his murder. The book has been described as a mixture of a crime thriller and a coming-of-age tale. "With a jaw-dropping mystery, stunning Southern setting, and endlessly fascinating female heroine at its centre, I loved this book the moment I read it and am so excited to join forces with Elizabeth and her team to bring Delia's truly moving page-turner to the screen," Witherspoon said in a statement. Lea Seydoux to return for Bond 25

Actor Lea Seydoux is set to reprise her "Spectre" role as psychologist Madeleine Swann in the next James Bond film. Daniel Craig is already on board to return, with Cary Joji Fukunaga writing and directing the film. According to Variety, Fukunaga is still finishing the Bond 25 script but producers have already begun building out the film's ensemble. Eon and MGM are looking for two other female actors one would play an MI6 agent who works with Bond and another a mystery women as well as the Bond villain. HC rejects idol wing IG's plea against HR&CE probe

The Madras High Court Friday rejected Idol Wing IG Pon Manickavel's plea to stall the HR&CE department's internal inquiry against its officials, allegedly involved in theft of idols, and said both the inquiries by the department and the wing can go on simultaneously. A special division bench comprising Justices R Mahadevan and P D Audikesavalu stated this while dealing with a batch of cases related to idol theft cases. Manickavel submitted that the Idol Wing was experiencing impediments in continuing its probe because of the parallel inquiry by the Hindu Religious & Charitable Endowments department. Objecting to this, senior counsel for the department submitted that there is a general misconception about the inquiry. "This is an intra-departmental inquiry which is required when officials of the department face charges," he said. A group of ministers formed to strengthen legal and institutional frameworks to prevent sexual harassment at workplace will hold their first meeting Monday where WCD Minister Maneka Gandhi will push for strengthening the National Commission for Women (NCW), officials said. The group of ministers, headed by Home Minister Rajnath Singh, was constituted by the government to strengthen the legal and institutional frameworks to deal with and prevent sexual harassment at workplace. Its members are Road Transport Minister Nitin Gadkari, Defence Minister Nirmala Sitharaman and Gandhi, the women and child development minister.
