Delhi HC sends actor Rajpal Yadav to 3 months jail

Bollywood actor Rajpal Yadav was Friday sent to three-month jail by the Delhi High Court for failing to repay loan he had taken in 2010 for making film 'Ata Pata Laapata'. His lawyer said since the actor was unable to pay the entire amount of the loan which had gone up to Rs 10 crore, the high court noted that under such circumstances the decree would be deemed to be executed if he serves three months jail. The opposite side had questioned the conduct of the actor who had tried to come out with a proposal not accepted to them. "I am satisfied from the past conduct of the judgment debtor (Yadav) that he in spite of being in a position to pay the decretal amount are managing their affairs so as to avoid execution of the decree... "The decree is ordered to be executed by the detention of Yadav in civil prison for a period of three months. Yadav was immediately taken into custody by the Delhi Police after the Delhi High Court order was pronounced on Friday.Though counsel for Yadav, Advocate Surat Singh sought more time and also expressed willingness to submit the papers of an immovable property as assurance, the Court did not provide him relief. Guild seeks Imran Khan's help for Pak publishers' participation in Kolkata Book Fair

The Publishers and Booksellers Guild, the organiser of the International Kolkata Book Fair, has written to Pakistan Prime Minister Imran Khan to facilitate participation of his country's publishers in the 2019 edition of the fair. The Guild wrote to Khan on November 28, seeking his intervention to facilitate the participation of six publishers to the fair, an annual event which began in 1976 and is considered the world's largest in terms of footfall. It had written to National Book Foundation of Pakistan in September, inviting it to participate in the fair, which begins from January 30 next year. 'Manikarnika..' producer denies payment of dues, except to one vendor

A day after Federation of Western India Cine Employees (FWICE) claimed that the makers of "Manikarnika: The Queen of Jhansi" are yet to clear dues of approximately Rs 1.5 crore to workers and junior artists, producer Kamal Jain Friday, refuted the allegations. The producer said that all the legitimate and due payments have been made, except of one vendor, who is arm-twisting them. According to FWICE, the makers of Kangana Ranaut-starrer film, have been shooting some portions of the movie at Filmcity in suburban Mumbai. The shoot was halted Wednesday afternoon mid-way because of non-payment of dues of workers, technicians and junior artists. "It has been three months but they have not cleared dues of daily wage workers, which is about Rs 40 lakh. About Rs 90 lakh is to be paid to light vendor and Rs 25 lakh to junior artists.
