Popular Himachali folk singer and poet Pratap Chand Sharma breathed his last at his native village in Himachal Pradesh's Kangra district on Tuesday morning. He was 90. Sharma was suffering from various age-related ailments for past some time, a Kangra district official said. Having got fame with songs like 'Thandi Thandi Hawa Chaldi', Sharma ruled the hearts of several generations of the state with his melodious voice, the official said. Sharma, who resided in Naleti village of Dehra subdivision, was associated with the state information and public relations department as an artist for some time. International Gita Festival to be held from Dec 7-23 in Kurukshetra
The International Gita Festival, 2018, will be organised in Kurukshetra in Haryana from December 7-23, in which Mauritius will be the partner country and Gujarat the partner state. The Gita festival will also be organised in Mauritius next February, an official spokesperson said Tuesday. He said about 200 famous painters from across the country would reach Kurukshetra to draw paintings on the walls of Kurukshetra on the theme of the Mahabharata under the 'paint-the-wall' competition. Artists from India as well from Mauritius, Indonesia, Iran, Turkmenistan and Russia will perform during the annual festival, the spokesperson said. Telecom operators' body COAI Tuesday raised objections to trailers of Rajinikanth-Akshay Kumar-starrer '2.0' movie, which is set to hit the screens this week, saying that the promotional videos show mobile phones and towers in a bad light. Alleging that the content of the movie is "defamatory", the Cellular Operators Association of India (COAI) Tuesday said it has requested the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) to revoke the certification of the film. The COAI, whose members include Reliance Jio, Bharti Airtel, and Vodafone Idea, has alleged that the promotional videos are based on the theme that electromagnetic field emissions from mobile phones and towers are harmful to living creatures and the environment, including birds and human beings. Such a depiction would create unfounded fear and mass paranoia by spreading misinformation about the adverse impact of mobile towers and mobile phones, the grouping said in a statement.
