Delhi Sikh Gurudwara Management Committee (DSGMC) general secretary Manjinder Singh Sirsa Monday lodged a complaint with police accusing actor Shahrukh Khan and others of "hurting religious sentiments" of the Sikh community through a poster of his upcoming movie 'Zero'. A SAD-BJP legislator from Delhi, Sirsa alleged in his complaint lodged at North Avenue police station here that that the actor has been shown wearing a 'kirpan' (small sword) in a movie's poster. No immediate reaction was available from the actor or any of his representatives and others concerned with the movie. "As per the Sikh rehat maryada (a code of conduct and conventions for Sikhism, approved by the Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee), only an Amritdhari Sikh can wear gatra kirpan," Sirsa said in his complaint. Bollywood production house Junglee Pictures, which was sent a notice by the Delhi government over smoking scenes and alleged promotion of tobacco products in their film, has stated that the depiction of tobacco brands was "incidental and inadvertent" and that they will blur them in copies to be provided for television broadcast in India, a city government official said. However, the Delhi government wants the company to take similar corrective steps in copies being shown in cinema halls also. It has also sought an undertaking from the production house that such violations will not happen in future, Additional Director (Health) Dr S K Arora said. He said that the further course of action will be decided based on compliance by the production house. In its reply to the notice, the company, while accepting that two brands of tobacco were shown -- one at a tobacco kiosk and other at a shopping centre, clarified that they have not received any benefit or payment for displaying those brands,

Telecom regulator TRAI is planning a consumer outreach programme, starting this month, to create user awareness on the nuances of its new tariff order and framework for broadcasting sector, a senior official said. TRAI's move comes just days after the Supreme Court dismissed a plea challenging the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India's (TRAI's) March, 2017 regulations and tariff order relating to fixation of charges for free and pay channels. "For consumers, we will have an outreach programme on the new broadcasting framework. We will explain the new regulations to the consumers, what are their rights and also resolve queries, if any," TRAI Secretary S K Gupta told reporters here. The modalities of the consumer outreach programme is currently being worked out, Gupta said adding that Delhi, Jaipur and other locations are being considered for the same. The police made a lathicharge to disperse a crowd which had thronged a suburban theatre Monday for buying tickets for popular Tamil actor Vijay starrer 'Sarkar' on the eve of the film's release as it became "unmanageable." Movie aficionados began thronging the area since this morning and some of them allegedly tried to break window panes in their attempt to buy the tickets at a movie hall in Guduvanchery. Former censor board chief and filmmaker Pankaj Nihalani moved the Bombay High Court Monday against a CBFC order directing 20 cuts in his soon-to-release production venture, "Rangeela Raja". Nihalani, in his petition, said the suggestion of the Central Board for Film Certification (CBFC) was unjustified and uncalled for as he firmly believed that the film was not vulgar in any manner. The filmmaker also hit out at the present head of the CBFC, Prasoon Joshi, and said he was "politically motivated". He further alleged that when a film was submitted for certification, the screening committee of the board took about 21 days to decide. However, in this case, it took 40 days. On November 2, the committee passed an order, asking for various cuts to be made in the film. The petition is likely to come up for hearing Tuesday before a vacation bench of the high court.
