Assam govt sanctions additional Rs 50 lakh to Rima Das

Rima Das, director and producer of 'Village Rockstars' which is India's official entry for the 2019 Oscars in the Best Foreign Language film category, will receive an additional Rs 50 lakh from the Assam government as announced by Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal Friday, a government release said. The state government had earlier granted Rs 50 lakh to Das. Now a total amount of Rs one crore will be provided to the filmmaker, said a government release here. Das had called on the chief minister and expressed her happiness over the selection of 'Village Rockstars' as India's official entry to the Oscars and thanked the Assam government and its people for the ''tremendous support'' to her. Seth Rogen to play lead in new Sony comedy

Actor Seth Rogen will be starring in a new comedy from Sony Pictures. The 36-year-old actor will play Herschel Greenbaum, a man who is preserved in a pickle barrel for 100 years and emerges out after a century in the middle of modern day Brooklyn, New York. The film is based on a New Yorker novella from Simon Rich and cinematographer Brandon Trost is in negotiations to helm it, reported Variety. Rich will adapt his own novella with Rogen, Evan Goldberg, and James Weaver producing the feature through their banner Point Grey. Production is expected to begin next month in Pittsburgh.

Bruce Dern replaces Burt Reynolds in 'Once Upon a Time in Hollywood'

Veteran actor Bruce Dern has joined the cast of Quentin Tarantino's next feature "Once Upon a Time in Hollywood". Dern, 82, replaces Burt Reynolds, who died on earlier this month after suffering a heart attack, reported Variety. Reynolds was set to star alongside Leonardo DiCaprio, Brad Pitt, Margot Robbie and Al Pacino in Tarantino's film. "Once Upon a Time in Hollywood" is set during the time of the Manson murders in 1969 and follows a television actor and his stunt double who to try to make it in the industry. Dern, who earlier worked with the filmmaker on "The Hateful Eight", will play George Spahn, the nearly-blind ranch owner whose property was invaded by Charles Manson (Damon Herriman) and his notorious 'family' in the months leading up to the crime. The cast also includes Luke Perry, Damian Lewis, Dakota Fanning, Emile Hirsch, Clifton Collins Jr, Tim Roth, Michael Madsen, Keith Jefferson, and Nicholas Hammond. The film has a release date of July 26, 2019.

Veteran singer Lata Mangeshkar Friday turned 89 and on Twitter there was an outpouring of love and heartfelt messages for the voice which has regaled the audiences for decades. Her extensive experience and work in the industry, ranging from 1942 to 2015, has earned her many sobriquets, such as Queen of Melody and the Nightingale of India. She started her career at the age of 13 in 1942 and has till now sung over 25, 000 songs, in different languages. Comedian Bill Cosby's Hollywood Walk of Fame star was defaced following his conviction in a sexual assault case against him.Concerned authorities decided not to remove the star despite the actor's conviction. Raamlaxman to get Mangeshkar Lifetime Achievement award

The Maharashtra government's 'Lata Mangeshkar Award for Lifetime Achievement' in the field of music will be conferred on senior music composer Vijay Patil, better known as 'Raamlaxman'. The award, announced every year on Mangeshkar's birthday, comprises a cash prize of Rs five lakh and a citation. Culture Minister Vinod Tawde made the announcement here Friday. The date of the award ceremony will be announced shortly, he said. In his over four decades-long career, Patil has composed music for more than 150 films in Hindi, Marathi and Bhojpuri languages, including blockbusters such as "Maine Pyar Kiya" and "Hum Apke Hain Kaun". Born on September 16, 1942 at Nagpur, Patil took his initial lessons in music from his father and uncle. He later studied music at the Bhatkhande Shikshan Sanstha. Nana Patekar to send legal notice to Tanushree Dutta

Veteran actor Nana Patekar has decided to send a legal notice to Tanushree Dutta following her allegations that the he sexually harassed her on the sets of a film in 2008.Speaking to ANI, Patekar's lawyer Rajendra Shikodkar, dismissed Dutta's allegations calling them false and untrue."We are in process of sending legal notice to Tanushree Dutta as she has made false allegations and has spoken untruth.
