Wanted to find my own Lisbeth Salander, says Fede Alvarez

Director Fede Alvarez has said he wanted a new face to play Lisbeth Salander, the famed Swedish hacker, for his take on Millennium novel series. Alvarez's "The Girl in the Spider's Web" features "The Crown" star Claire Foy taking on the role of Salander. She succeeds actor Rooney Mara who had portrayed the character in David Fincher's 2011 film "The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo". In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, the 40-year-old director said that he insisted on new faces for his film as he "didn't like the idea of taking someone else's cast". "There was a lot of debate but not with me mostly debate among the studio, if they (were) taking that route or not," Alvarez said. "Eventually, I think it was me coming in, saying, I preferred to have my own cast. As a director, I just didn't like the idea of taking someone else's cast. Demi Lovato cancels rest of her world tour

Demi Lovato has cancelled the rest of her 2018 tour dates as she recovers from an drug overdose which had led to her hospitalisation. Lovato was scheduled to undertake a South America tour in November with shows lined up in Chile, Argentina, and Brazil but they all are cancelled now, reported Variety. The 25-year-old singer was also scheduled to perform on two dates in Mexico in September. "Unfortunately, Demi Lovato has cancelled her upcoming Tell Me You Love Me Tour dates in South America, as she is focusing on her recovery," Live Nation said in a statement. "The 6-city tour was scheduled to visit Chile, Argentina and Brazil starting November 14th. Tickets will be available at the point of purchase and credit card purchases will automatically be refunded," it added. Lovato overdosed on what was reported as an unspecified opioid on July 24. Idris Elba to Star in and produce 'Ghetto Cowboy' adaptation

Actor Idris Elba is all set to star in and produce the indie drama "Ghetto Cowboy". The film is an official adaptation of 2011 novel of the same name by author Greg Neri, reported Deadline. To be directed by debutante Ricky Staub, the film follows a 15-year-old Cole who is forced to live with his estranged father Harp (Elba) in North Philadelphia, where, despite the surrounding poverty and violence, he discovers the redemptive world of urban horseback riding. The screenplay has been penned by Staub along with Dan Walser. The project will be produced by Elba via his Green Door Pictures banner alongside Jeff Waxman, Jen Madeloff, Sam Mercer, Tegan Jones and Walser.

Atif Aslam faces backlash for singing Indian song at Pak Independence Day parade

Pakistani vocalist Atif Aslam has been trolled on social media and also criticised by the country's mainstream media, for singing an Indian song at a Pakistan Independence Day function in New York earlier this month. Madras HC dismisses applications against release of Viswaroopam II

The Madras High Court today dismissed applications filed by a film production firm seeking to stall the release of actor Kamal Hassan's "Viswaroopam II", set to hit the screens tomorrow, over a financial dispute. Justice M Sundar dismissed the applications by Pyramid Saimira Productions International for recovery of Rs 5.44 crore which the company claimed it had paid as advance to Hassan and his production house Raj Kamal Films International for making a film over 10 years ago. Pyramid Saimira had originally filed civil suits for recovery of the Rs 5.44 crore, contending that Hassan had not discharged his obligations as per an agreement it had signed with him for producing the film titled "Marmayogi" in Tamil and Hindi. The actor had also filed a suit against Pyramid Saimira Productions claiming damages of Rs 11 crore for alleged breach of conditions of the agreement, saying the firm had not honoured committed payments. Sanchez announces Chilean film about his life

Manchester United star Alexis Sanchez announced on his Instagram account today that a film about his life is due out in Chile next year. Sanchez is the biggest star of Chilean football and the epitome of a rags to riches success story. The motion picture entitled "Alexis, the film," is "a story about a kid that did everything to achieve his dream," according to the trailer published on Sanchez's Instagram account. Production company Fabula, responsible for the Oscar-winning "A Fantastic Woman" which starred Daniela Vega, is behind the film. Fabula said in a statement that children all over the country would be invited to audition for the lead role "based on unprecedented moments in Alexis's life." Sanchez, 29, will play himself as an adult. The film is due to be released during next year's Copa America in Brazil, where Chile will be the defending champions. Sanchez, Chile's all-time top goalscorer, joined Manchester United in January following spells at Arsenal and Barcelona.
