It's not Sharon Tate's story: Quentin Tarantino on Margot Robbie's small role in 'Once Upon...'

Filmmaker Quentin Tarantino has defended the lack of scenes of Margot Robbie, who is essaying the role of the late actor Sharon Tate in his upcoming directorial "Once Upon a Time in Hollywood", saying the film's story is not about her character. The much-awaited film, which is Tarantino's ninth directorial, is described as an ode to the Hollywood of his childhood and explores how the Golden Age of the industry came to an end with the murder of Tate at the hands of the Manson Family cult in 1969. It features Leonardo DiCaprio, 44, as Rick Dalton, an ageing, out-of-work actor, with Brad Pitt, 55, playing his longtime stunt double named Cliff Booth. The two characters happen to be the neighbours of Tate (Robbie). In an interview with IndieWire, Tarantino clarified that the film is actually about Rick with Tate having an "angelic presence" in it. "There was a little bit more of her; everybody lost sequences. It's not her story, it's Rick's story. It's not even Cliff's," he said. "And she .

Xavier Dolan calls out Hollywood's double standards for films about homsexual love stories

Canadian filmmaker Xavier Dolan has questioned the double standards of Hollywood for its definition of a love story. According to IndieWire, Dolan, known for films such as "Mommy", "It's Only the End of the World" and "The Death and Life of John F. Donovan", is presenting his latest feature "Matthias & Maxime" at the Cannes Film Festival. At a press conference, the 30-year-old director said Hollywood calls films about same-sex love stories "gay films" or "queer films" but such labels are missing from movies dealing with relationships between men and women. "We never talk about heterosexual films. 'Oh, I saw this great heterosexual love story.' For me, it's not a story of homosexuality or gay love. Ultimately, I don't think that the two protagonists are aware that it is gay love. It's love," Dolan said. The filmmaker made it clear that "Matthias & Maxime" is not "gay, its life".

Emilia Clarke turned down 'Fifty Shades of Grey' as she was done with on-screen nudity

"Game of Thrones" star Emilia Clarke says she had liked the script of "Fifty Shades of Grey" when it was pitched to her but eventually declined the project because she did not want to be pigeonholed. The 32-year-old actor was offered the lead part of Anastasia Steele in the film adaptation of EL James' bestselling novel. The role was eventually played by actor Dakota Johnson in the 2015 film and its two follow-ups. In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Clarke said it is "annoying" that people often remembers her for the explicit scenes she shot for the "Game of Thrones", which she basically did for the sake of her character. "The last time that I was naked on camera on [Game of Thrones] was a long time ago, and yet it is the only question that I ever get asked because I am a woman," she said. "And it's annoying as hell and I'm sick and tired of it because I did it for the character. I didn't do it so some guy could check out my tits, for God's sake," she added. When "Fifty ...

Timothy Olyphant worked in 'Hitman', 'Die Hard' as he had to pay house mortgage

Actor Timothy Olyphant has said that he had to pay the mortgage on his new house which is why he said yes to playing the bad guy in "Live Free or Die Hard" and an expert assassin in critically-panned "Hitman". The actor told Rolling Stone that when his popular Western show "Deadwood" was cancelled by HBO in 2006, he had just bought a new house and he suddenly found himself jobless. But despite the setback, Olyphant said he chose to be the "glass-half-full type" of a person. "... I said to myself, 'Well, thank God I didn't know they were going to cancel the show. I would never have bought this house.' And let me put this under the list of why these people owe me. What we have to thank for this is the villain in 'Die Hard' and a f***ing bald head in Bulgaria shooting 'Hitman'," the actor said. Olyphant said when his manager called him about potential acting gigs for him, he agreed to everything. "That's what that phone call led to. 'How about the villain of Die Hard?' I said, 'Sure.' ...

JJ Abrams talks about incorporating old footage of Carrie Fisher in new 'Star Wars' film

Filmmaker JJ Abrams says it was a difficult job for him to incorporate old footage of the late Carrie Fisher in his upcoming directorial "Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker". Fisher, 60, died on December 27, 2016 after suffering a cardiac arrest on a flight from London to Los Angeles. Abrams had last year announced that he will be using unseen footage shot for "The Force Awakens" to build Leia's character in the upcoming movie, which marks the final chapter in the Skywalker Saga of the hit franchise. In an interview with Vanity Fair, the director assured the fans that Fisher appearance will be seamless in the new film. "It's hard to even talk about it without sounding like I'm being some kind of cosmic spiritual goofball but it felt like we suddenly had found the impossible answer to the impossible question," Abrams said about the unseen footage. Will Smith says 'Aladdin' music helped him play Genie

Will Smith says he had a monumental task of doing justice to the classic Disney character of Genie in "Aladdin" but the film's music, composed by veteran Alan Menken, helped his performance. The 50-year-old actor takes on the iconic role, which was earlier played by the late Robin Williams in the 1992 film. Talking to Variety on the sidelines of the film's promotional event, Smith said the biggest challenge of playing the role was "being able to find a way to not make it jarring and disturbing by how different it would be." He said he wanted to make people feel at home while they were getting something new and special. "The music was really how I saw my way in to be able to play the Genie. That first day messing around with 'Friend Like Me', I noticed that it was in the BPM range of old-school hip-hop. So when I started playing with it, it was like, 'Oh man this really lends itself to a tempo and a flavour that I really understand'," Smith said. "And that showed me how I could pay ...
