Asian Games 2023: Indian Esports team grabs top seed, begins campaign in QF

India were seeded directly into the quarterfinals in League of Legends E-sports event, while they will begin their campaign from the round of 32 in two other sections in the Asian Games. India will compete in four of the seven events in the E-sports which will be making its full-fledged debut as an official medal sport at the Hangzhou showpiece. Having dominated the Central and South Asia seeding event and clinching the top-seed, Indian team have gained a direct entry into the quarter-finals in League of Legends event. The Indian League of Legends team is represented by captain Akshaj Shenoy (Kai), Samarth Arvind Trivedi (CrankO), Mihir Ranjan (Lotus), Sanindhya Malik (Deadcorp), Aakash Shandilya (Infi) and Aditya Selvaraj (Krow). Garena's Free Fire to return to India from Sep 5 as govt revokes ban

Esports company Garena will restart Free Fire online games in India from September 5 after the government revoked the ban on the app. Garena's Free Fire app was removed from Google Play Store and Apple's App Store after the government banned it in February 2022. The company on Thursday said that the app will be available for download from September 5. "India is home to very passionate communities of esports enthusiasts and we are excited to be able to support our fans from Bharat with the launch of Free Fire India. We look forward to providing an engaging and highly localised experience for Indian users," Garena Co-Founder Gang Ye said in a statement. India's Charanjot Singh secured the top-seeding in South Asia at next month's Asian Games in Hangzhou after producing overwhelming performances against Nepal, Bangladesh and Sri Lanka in seeding event for FIFA e-sport. One of India's best FIFAe player, Charanjot's gameplay was based on precision and strategy, as he proved too good for the three opponents. Fantasy Sports revenue to rise 30-35% to Rs 2,900-3,100 cr this IPL season

Fantasy sports segment revenue is expected to grow in the range of 30-35 per cent to Rs 2,900-3,100 crore during the ongoing IPL 2023 cricket tournament season over the last year, market research firm Redseer Strategy Consultants said on Wednesday. The data estimates show 6.5-7 crore users are expected to transact on gaming platforms. Redseer Strategy Consultants, Partner, Ujjwal Chaudhry said there has been large awareness around fantasy sports platforms with higher marketing spend. "We are now seeing Bollywood stars in promotion. There is now better clarity around the regulatory framework, GST. Another positive push has been from Google where it has allowed some fantasy platforms on Playstore under its pilot programme. All of these are very positive developments for fantasy sports in India.
