With the Ukraine conflict casting a shadow over the G20 summit, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday called upon the leaders of the bloc to overcome the current "trust deficit" and collectively find "concrete" solutions to turbulent global economy, terrorism and management of food, fuel, and fertilisers. In his opening remarks at the summit, Modi said as the president of the G20, India invites the "entire world to come together and, first and foremost, transform this global trust deficit into global trust and confidence". He said India's presidency of the bloc has become a symbol of "inclusion", both within the country and beyond, representing the spirit of 'Sabka Saath' (with everyone). "After COVID-19, a huge crisis of lack of trust has come in the world. Conflict has deepened this trust deficit. Just as we can overcome COVID, we can also overcome this crisis of mutual trust," he said. He added: "This is a time for all of us to walk together, and the mantra of 'Sabka Saath, .

Tibetan students protest against China, urge G20 leaders to take action

Tibetan activists staged a protest here in McLeodganj on Saturday appealing to the G20 leaders gathered in Delhi to discuss China's alleged attempts at erasing Tibetan culture. The student protesters alleged that the Chinese government was continuously assaulting their education system and trying to erase Tibetan culture and identity. The protesters urged the world leaders to take a firm action against these actions. Tenzin Passang, national director of Students for Free Tibet (India), said China has established in Tibet colonial-style boarding schools where Tibetan children, as young as four years old, are separated from their families and forced into these schools. The separation disconnects them from their language and culture not just their families, he said. Tenzin Lekdhen, campaign director at Students for Free Tibet - India, said, "We want to urge G20 leaders to specifically talk about these events that are currently happening in Tibet, especially this colonial boarding sch

India circulates new paragraph among G20 nations to describe Ukraine crisis

India on Saturday circulated a new paragraph among the G20 countries to describe the Ukraine conflict in the joint leaders' declaration to be unveiled at the end of the two-day summit of the grouping, diplomatic sources said. With consensus eluding on the paragraph relating to the Ukraine conflict, India on Friday circulated a draft summit declaration among the member countries without the paragraph on the geopolitical issue in an attempt to hammer out a positive outcome. India's circulation of the new text on Ukraine came as the G20 leaders began deliberations on pressing global challenges on the first day of the annual summit of the bloc. A lack of consensus on the text on Ukraine may result in the summit ending without a joint declaration, which will be a first for the grouping. There was no consensus on the text to describe the Ukraine issue at the G20 Sherpa meeting that took place in Nuh district of Haryana from September 3-6. Indian negotiators believe that there will be ...
