Gujarat elections: BJP upbeat after exit polls predict big majority

The Gujarat Bharatiya Janata Party unit is upbeat and confident of forming the next government in the state with all the exit polls predicting a big mandate for the saffron outfit. Gujarat BJP's chief spokesperson Yamal Vyas claimed the new poll entrant Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) will not win a single seat in the 182-member state Assembly. The counting of votes will take place on December 8. Despite an aggressive poll campaign by the AAP and its lucrative promises, Arvind Kejriwal-led party was projected to bag anything between two and 13 seats, as per the exit polls. The majority mark in Gujarat is 92. All the exit polls have predicted a big majority for the BJP in Gujarat in the range of 117-151 seats, while the Congress was predicted to bag seats in the range of 16-51. Vyas said, "We were confident from the beginning that the people of Gujarat are with us and the BJP will register a grand victory." Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) national convener Arvind Kejriwal on Tuesday thanked the people of Delhi after exit polls predicted a win for the party in the Delhi municipal election and also said the prediction for the party in Gujarat was a "positive sign". Three exit polls on Monday predicted a clear win for the AAP in the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) polls, with the BJP emerging a distant second. All the exit polls have given the Congress less than 10 seats. The results of the polls to 250 wards of MCD will be declared after the counting of votes on December 7. "I would like to congratulate the people of Delhi. They have again showed their faith in us. Let's wait for tomorrow (Wednesday)," he told reporters on the sidelines of an event. On the Gujarat exit polls, the Delhi chief minister said a new party like the AAP getting "15 to 20 per cent vote share" in a state considered the BJP's stronghold was a "big thing". Gujarat polls: Villagers claim they boycotted voting over flogging incident

As many as 1,400 Muslim voters from Undhela village in Gujarat's Kheda district boycotted voting during the second phase of the state Assembly polls in protest against the public flogging of some men from the community by police two months ago, community leaders have claimed. Poll officials have denied the claim saying there was no boycott call. Seven persons, including a policeman, were injured when stones were thrown at a Garba event in Kheda district in October by a group allegedly comprising members of the Muslim community. They had objected to holding the event near a mosque. Later, videos showing policemen in plain clothes beating some men, suspected to have thrown stones, with sticks in front of other villagers went viral on social media, causing an uproar. On Monday, community leaders said all 1,400 Muslim voters of the total 3,700 voters in Undhela village, situated in Matar taluka, joined the protest and didn't exercise their franchise when polling was held across 93 ...
